RIPE 89 Student Event: The Czech Internet Community in Focus

Dear colleagues, In less than a month, RIPE NCC will be hosting another RIPE meeting and this time around we're heading to the beautiful city of Prague, Czech Republic! The dates are October 28 - November 1; registration for the meeting is still open and a draft agenda is published with the final version coming soon. For more details, check the official page: https://ripe89.ripe.net Pre-RIPE 89 Online student event On Monday October 14 (17:00 - 18:30 UTC+2), NCC will organise a free online event aimed at people currently studying in the fields of networking, computer science, internet governance and other fields relevant to the RIPE community. The goal is to introduce them to the RIPE Community, encourage them to participate at the RIPE Meeting (in-person or online) and provide them with tips on how to make the most out of it. In this edition, we are putting a spotlight on the Czech Internet community and their remarkable contributions to building a stable, robust, and resilient Internet. We prepared a great agenda featuring excellent speakers who will share their firsthand experiences in founding, managing, and supporting critical infrastructure projects and initiatives in Czechia. As we are targeting undergrad and master students, the speakers will keep the content relatively high-level and focused on the importance of strong communities. Successful SEE 12 in Athens

The goal is to introduce them to the RIPE Community, encourage them to participate at the RIPE Meeting (in-person or online) and provide them with tips on how to make the most out of it. The planned duration of the event is 1h and 30 min. https://www.internetsociety.org/funding-areas/sustainable-peering-ixp/ The Internet Society has a rich history in building Internet infrastructure like IXPs, working with local and regional communities toward a thriving Internet ecosystem that keeps Internet traffic local, reduces costs, sparks development, and improves the quality of Internet services. We are excited to announce that the Sustainable Peering Infrastructure Funding Program is now open for applications. Funding will specifically support: Existing IXPs that need additional funding to grow or become sustainable Organizations that hope to build a new IXP Entities that work with local communities to improve peering and infrastructure Entities that provide a positive contribution to the entire IXP ecosystem Grant funds from USD $5,000 up to $50,000 are open to all regions and are available to assist in equipment purchases (switches, optic modules, servers, and routers), training, capacity building, and community development. Applications are accepted in two windows: 16 January-22 March 2024, and again from 1 July-6 September 2024. Dear colleagues, We want to help people who can't join the next RIPE Meeting in person to participate in a more engaging way. Would you like to set up a space for participants to meet in your city? If yes, organise a Local Hub! Local Hubs are in-person gatherings that take place in parallel to the RIPE Meeting. They allow registered participants to watch the webcast of the RIPE Meeting, follow the discussions and participate online via chat, audio, or video. Best of all, they can network with other community members from their country, experience the community spirit, and discuss topics from a local perspective. If you'd like to host one, you can also expand the programme to hold additional debates around topics of the RIPE Meeting of particular interest to the local participants. Hi Mir, hi Niall, I heard back from EARN and they do want to host their anniversary the weekend before SEE 13. They need: - 30-60 hotel rooms - meeting room for Sat (20 Apr) afternoon + Sun (21 Apr) all day What level of involvement do you want us to have? - just forward the contact person of the SEE hotel to EARN (so they do everything themselves) - include EARN's requirements in our contract with the hotel, but forward EARN the invoice for their part (so they pay, but we help with the arrangements) - pay for the meeting room and/or catering as a gesture for them? (so we make arrangements and pay) Maybe we can have a discussion about this next week, since actually it might turn out to be beneficial for us (easier to get a hotel) if we can request from the hotel more bedrooms. I will invite Kajal to our call. Speaking of this, unfortunately I can't make our call Wednesday next week. Could Thursday (19 Oct) work? I see you are busy until 11:30. It is to be awarded in November at the RIPE 87 meeting in Rome to an individual who has made an outstanding technical or operational contribution to Internet development in the RIPE region. Ideally, the person has also enabled and supported third parties in this regard. Dear colleagues, A reminder that this year's deadline to apply for the Community Projects Fund is 31 May. We don't get many applications from South East Europe, so I'd really like to encourage you to think if there is a not-for-profit project or initiative you'd like to start (or get support for). Also, please help us spread the word to people who might be interested. Most selected projects get awarded between 20,000 and 50,000 Eur.
