Calling all software developers, designers and network operators! The next RIPE Atlas hackathon takes place 14-15 November in Bucharest, right before RIPE 71. We're looking for creative thinkers to help us find new ways to use RIPE Atlas data to monitor networks and troubleshoot issues as well as ways to improve the existing toolset. Is this you? The event had an excellent attendance of 235 people, including 134 from Serbia. SEE 3/RIPE NCC Regional Meeting Report

Dear colleagues, The third South East Europe (SEE 3) RIPE NCC Regional Meeting took place from 14-15 April in Sofia, Bulgaria. The event had an excellent attendance of 229 people, including 135 from Bulgaria. It was also encouraging to see that many attendees from last year's SEE 2 Meeting in Macedonia returned to attend the SEE 3 Meeting. The community in south east Europe has proved to be extremely vibrant and eager to engage with the wider Internet industry. The excellent presentations and lively discussions at SEE 3 were further evidence of this. We would like to thank all who helped to make this such a successful event, particularly meeting co-hosts BIX.BG. RIPE NCC regional meetings are a fantastic way for the organisation to engage with our members and the community, and for those regional communities to let us know what we can do to help them. Dear colleagues, The third RIPE NCC Regional Meeting/South East Europe Meeting (SEE3) takes places in Sofia, Bulgaria at the Kempinski Hotel Zografski from 14-15 April 2014. We hope that this meeting will build on the success of SEE1 and SEE2, which took place in Dubrovnik and in Skopje. These meetings demonstrated how vibrant the Internet community in the region is, as well as the knowledge-sharing and network-building benefits to be gained from meeting as a community. SEE 3/RIPE NCC Regional Meeting: Call for Presentations

Dear colleagues, Are you an experienced network operator willing to share your expertise with your peers in South East Europe? The SEE Programme Committee (PC) is now seeking content proposals from the community for plenary presentations, panels sessions, workshops and lightning talks at SEE 3, the third South East Europe/RIPE NCC Regional Meeting. Proposals are sought on topics including, but not limited to: - IPv6 deployment - Managing IPv4 scarcity in operations - Commercial transactions involving IPv4 addresses - Data center technologies - Network and DNS operations - Internet governance and regulatory practices - Network and routing security - Content delivery - Internet peering and mobile data exchange - Efforts to establish Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) in the region - Reports from existing IXPs - Regional success stories Workshops/tutorials are 90 minutes and should focus on teaching core skills and basic knowledge. Plenary speakers should plan for a 20-minute presentation followed by five minutes of Q&A. The RIPE Academic Cooperation Initiative (RACI) in Greece

Dear colleagues, The RIPE 67 Meeting will take place in the South East Europe region, in Athens, from 14-18 October 2013. For this meeting, the RIPE Academic Cooperation Initiative (RACI) will again offer academics the chance to attend a RIPE Meeting for free and present their work to the RIPE community. We would like to ask for your help in spreading the word about RACI at the academic institutions in your country. Full details on RACI and details on how academics can apply are available at: https://ripe67.ripe.net/programme/raci/ The initiative is an excellent opportunity for students in the SEE region to showcase their research to the RIPE community and enhance their own professional networks. Students are also invited to discuss their research with industry experts. The goal of RACI is to promote increased RIPE Meeting participation from academics in the RIPE NCC service region, and to strengthen the links between the RIPE community and the academic community. With the RIPE Meeting taking place in Greece, this is the ideal time for academics in the SEE region to apply for RACI sponsorship. We hope that encouraging a new generation of attendees with an interest in the technical development of the Internet will strengthen the RIPE community in the years ahead. Through RACI, we offer up to six academics the chance to attend and, if selected by the RIPE Programme Committee, present their work during a plenary session or in lightning talks at another designated session during the RIPE Meeting. RACI proposals may also be selected for presentation in RIPE Working Group sessions. RACI application is open to any academics based in the RIPE NCC service region. If you work at an academic institution, or you know of any suitable candidates, we would appreciate it if you would pass on the details. RIPE NCC Survey 2013 Now Online - Call to Participate

[Apologies for duplicate emails] Dear colleagues, As I announced to many of you who attended the SEE2 Meeting in Skopje last month, the RIPE NCC has prepared its RIPE NCC Survey 2013 for members and all other interested parties and I encourage you, your colleagues and contacts to participate! We recently launched the survey and you can find it here: https://www.ripe.net/survey2013 This very important survey will allow us to assess our services and activities, identify areas for improvement, and help shape our strategy for the coming years. The survey is carried out by the Oxford Internet Institute (OII), which guarantees anonymity for participants and independent assessment of results. It will remain open until 17 June 2013. The results will be presented at the RIPE 67 Meeting in Athens. There are no limits on who can take the survey. RIPE NCC members as well as other interested parties globally are asked to participate. If many people in the same organisation would like to take the survey, they are welcome to do so. This is your chance to let the RIPE NCC know exactly what you think, what needs to be done in your country or region, and give your suggestions on how the organisation should operate. As many of you know, we are currently having the second South East Europe / RIPE NCC Regional Meeting in Skopje, Macedonia. The meeting has been a great success, with many interesting discussions and new contacts made. One of the panel discussions focused on building cooperation and discussing whether an operators group was wanted by the community in the region. As a first step, it was suggested to start using this mailing list to build connections in the region. This list was created after the first SEE meeting, which took place in Dubrovnik in 2011. We will post information on this list that we feel is of interest to operators in the region. We hope you will use the mailing list to talk to each other and to share knowledge on areas of common interest. Following the tremendous success of the inaugural South Eastern Europe (SEE)/RIPE NC Regional Meeting in 2011 in Dubrovnik, we are now planning to hold a follow-up meeting in the region, this time in Skopje, Macedonia. These regional meetings offer network engineers and other technical staff an opportunity to share their knowledge and experience, and to identify areas for regional cooperation. The meetings are open to anyone and there is no cost to attend. The purpose of the meeting is to: * Encourage the cooperation of operators in the region, enabling them to exchange information and discuss the issues that affect them * Enable the RIPE NCC to further support Local Internet Registries (LIRs) in the region. * Present the latest developments in the Internet industry. SEE 2 runs from 22-23 April 2013 in Skopje, Macedonia. The meeting agenda will consist of plenary sessions, tutorials, hands-on workshops as well as long coffee breaks, lunches, and evening social events with plenty of time for attendees to meet each other face-to-face. The SEE Programme Committee (PC) is currently looking for network operators and researchers in South East Europe who would like to teach a technical tutorial or lead a workshop and/or give a technical presentation during the conference. Submission topics include (but are not limited to): * IPv6 (in general) * BGP and routing * Network management and monitoring (BSS/OSS/NMS) * Internet exchanges * DNS/DNSSEC/IDN * Policy and regulatory aspects Presentation proposals can be submitted here: <http://papers.apia.org/paper/user/index.php?event=15> Conference Milestones * Call for Papers opens: 19 November 2012 * Deadline for first proposal: 21 January 2013 * Deadline for second proposal: 11 February 2013 * Final programme published: 1 April 2013 * Final slides: 15 April 2013 Please note that marketing/commercial content will not be considered. The presenter should come from a technical background rather than sales or marketing. A draft version of the presentation (PPT or PDF) must be submitted with the talk proposal. This draft version should outline the content flow of the talk and any key messages. -------------------------- Guidelines for Submissions -------------------------- When considering a presentation, workshop or tutorial, remember that the audience will mainly be comprised of technical network operators and engineers with varying levels of experience. Workshops/tutorials are 90-minutes long and should focus on teaching core skills and basic knowledge. Conference presentations should address issues that ISPs and network operators could face over the next 12-18 months in their day-to-day operations. Conference presenters should plan for a 20-minute presentation followed by a 5-minute Q&A period. ---------------------------------- Notification of Accepted Presentations ---------------------------------- The SEE 2 PC will confirm acceptance of your presentation proposal by 25 March 2013. Late submissions that are exceptionally timely or of critical operational importance will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Funding and Support SEE 2 is a not-for-profit event that aims to keep the cost of attending as low as possible. For this reason, SEE is unable to subsidise the cost of travel for speakers.
