Free Vouchers Available for our IPv6 and RIPE Database Exams - Request by 1 March

Dear colleagues, Have you heard about the RIPE NCC Certified Professionals? It's our online exam certification programme. We currently offer two exam certifications - on the RIPE Database and on IPv6. The exams can be scheduled and taken online, under the supervision of a live, remote proctor at the candidate’s convenience. We have also begun working on an IPv6 security exam that will be launched later this year. The exam questions are aligned with the demands of the job market, so that our certifications test actual skills and knowledge required in the workplace. Once you take the exam, you will be able to see your results instantly, and if you are successful, you will be able to receive and display your digital badge. This digital badge is verifiable and can be shared via social media, or added to your digital CV. If this sounds interesting to you, try out the exams for yourself. If you are a member, you should have already received three voucher codes. If you cannot find them, email exams(a)ripe.net. Up until 1 March we also offer a limited number of vouchers to non-members. Apply for funding via the RIPE Community Projects Fund by 23 August: https://ripe.net/cpf For more than 25 years, the RIPE NCC has been supporting activities and projects for the “Good of the Internet”. Community-driven, non commercial work has been fundamental to the success of the Internet from its earliest days, and continues to play an important role in making the Internet resilient, secure and accessible for everyone. Under the RIPE NCC Community Projects Fund, the RIPE NCC will provide up to EUR 250,000 per year to support projects of value to the operation, sustainability and resilience of the Internet, with a focus on tools and services benefitting the technical community in the Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia. Apply now to get your project funded! If you or your organisation is working on a new or existing project that fits the criteria below, and need some financial support to get it off the ground or keep it going, we want to hear from you! Dear colleagues, Yesterday, we hosted an online session with members of the community about the state of the Internet in Southeast Europe. We presented highlights from the RIPE NCC’s Southeast Europe Country Report and used the data from the report to spark discussion around relevant Internet governance issues in the region. Dear SEE region community, I am running for the RIPE NCC Executive Board. Elections will be held May 13-15, each LIR can participate. I ask you to support my candidacy on the RIPE NCC website. See below for more information on how to vote. Who am I I was born in Russia, and I have been living in the Czech Republic since 2007. My interest in computers and networks first began when I was a child. I started my career in ICT during my university time: I have worked in banks, ISPs, and other IT-related companies. I have built and maintained access, corporate and service networks. At the moment, I work for an ISP and LIR in the Czech Republic, providing service to customers from around the globe. I have participated in the RIPE community since 2008. In 2010, I was a co-founder of the ENOG meetings, and in 2018, CSNOG for operators from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Together with my colleagues, we've organised local community meetings for hundreds of people, attracting many speakers, and making the Internet better. I also take part in the different forms of Internet operators’ cooperation all over the world (every SEE meeting, many NOGs, IETF, RIR meetings, etc.). Southeast Europe Country Report and Online Discussion

Dear colleagues, Today we’ve published the latest in our series of country reports, this time shining the spotlight on Southeast Europe rather than focusing on an individual country. This is the fourth such country report that the RIPE NCC has produced as part of an ongoing effort to support Internet development throughout our service region by making our data and insights available to local technical communities and decision makers alike. The report takes stock of the current IPv4 and IPv6 resource holdings in the Southeast European region, looks at the history of development of the Internet industry, and assesses its opportunity for future growth. We also examine the region’s access to the global Domain Name System (DNS), look at how traffic is exchanged within the region, and identify the different paths and operators providing access from the rest of the world. SEE 9 Postponed Due to COVID-19

Dear colleagues, Following the escalation of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Europe and across the world, we’ve decided to postpone SEE 9, which was scheduled to take place from 7-8 April in Ljubljana, Slovenia. This was a difficult decision to make but necessary as the health and well-being of attendees and organising staff remain our top priority. We also feel that the meeting itself would be more useful and enjoyable if it takes place once the current situation has been resolved. We would like to thank everyone involved in the organisation of the event for their support and guidance. We are currently working with all event partners and hope to announce new dates for SEE 9 in the future. If you planned to attend SEE 9 and have made arrangements, please remember to cancel your flights and/or hotel if you will no longer visit Ljubljana. Hi all, Here is a quick update on various events happening in SEE. The third ALNOG is planned for 14 November in Tirana. They have not opened for registration just yet, but if you are interested, subscribe to their mailing list to get the notification: https://www.alnog.al A week later, on 21 November, RSNOG are organising their fifth meeting in hotel "M" in Belgrade. Similar to above, subscribe to their mailing list if interested in getting a reminder when registration opens: https://rsnog.rs The ninth GRNOG is taking place on 6 December in the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens. Hi Some of you may remember that at SEEDIG in Ohrid, 2 years ago? :) I talked about Descon, a 2 day community and capacity building multidisciplinary event focused on security of the Internet of Things, robotics, electronics taking place in our region. It is aimed at local and regional participants in South East Europe but it has attracted great participants from all corners of the world. We’re back in 2 week’s time and this year we continue to look at how Internet technology can assist in tackling environmental challenges. Hi all, Are you working on or planning a non-commercial project that would benefit the Internet or the RIPE community? Or maybe you know somebody with a great idea, who is lacking to funds to make it true? Through the Community Projects Fund, the RIPE NCC will provide up to EUR 250,000 per year to support projects of value to the operation and resilience of the Internet, with a focus on tools and services benefitting the technical community in the Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia. In the end, as it goes, all really positive things that occurred in a a relatively short timespan: - IGF (Internet Governance Forum) meeting was held in December last year, mentioning importance of IXP (http://www.intgovforum.org/multilingual/index.php?q=filedepot_download/3568…) - a really nice Minister from the Ministry of Communications & Transport understands the importance of IXP - NIC in Bosnia and Herzegovina gets selected as neutral point - three biggest providers gather together, as they have ever-growing traffic, and IXP makes sense for them - NIC managed to sign a founding Memorandum with three ISPs - 4G is finally coming to the country this year after so many unreasonable delays and law changes! Name is BHNIX, website will be available at bhnix.ba, nothing there yet except a default placeholder, but it should be a main page for all the news and statistics in future. Hi all, INIT Las is organising two BGP workshops in Bulgaria. Maybe you find it interesting. I'm copy-pasting the info they sent me below: -- 02.March in initLab in Sofia - https://initlab.org/events/bgp-workshop-4 - https://www.facebook.com/events/1472831529518356 03.March in SiteGround HQ in Plovdiv https://www.facebook.com/events/2070775326372036 These events are free. Everyone participating is expected to bring their own laptop, that can run Linux or an OS with a BGP capable network daemon. You will then configure VLANs between you and two ISPs and two Internet Exchanges(IX) and finally add VLANs to your neighboors. After that, you will setup IPv4 and v6 BGP sessions with each participating party. At the end of the event we will also play with BGP communities, local_preferences and if someone wants, ECMP. Anything more advanced can be discussed during the event. We will have one or two 48 port managed switches. The routers of the two ISPs and two IXes are Linux Containers running Bird 1.6 or 2.0 During the workshops, we will also discuss RPKI and if time allows try to play a bit with ROA records and their implementation in Bird or other BGP daemons.
