Lorenzo Colitti, RIPE NCC and University of Rome Tre Introduction/abstract: I and my colleagues at Roma Tre University have developed techniques that ISPs can use to find out how their prefixes could be announced in case of network faults and how other ASes treat their prefixes. Our techniques are based on active BGP probing and announcing large AS-sets, and have been successfully tested in the IPv6 Internet. Our subsequent announcement of tests on the IPv4 network caused a bit of a stir on nanog [1]. The tests were cancelled and we said we would first come out with a document explaining what we do and how we do it and then continue the discussion. A technical report is almost ready and we would like to get the discussion going.

The course also offers practical exercises. OVERVIEW OF TOPICS COVERED IN THE COURSE: - Routing Registry as a part of the RIPE Whois Database and the Internet Routing Registry (IRR) - Specifying routing policies using (RPSL) Routing Policy Specification Language and the RtConfig tool - IRRToolSet - Routing Information Service (RIS) - Routing Registry Consistency Check Project Please note that this is an advanced course. It will: - NOT teach the basics of routing - NOT teach the basics of RIPE Database operations, - NOT describe how to receive Internet resources from the RIPE NCC - NOT describe how to operate a Local Internet Registry (LIR) The target audience of the course are technical staff of LIRs: e.g. network operators, engineers etc. This course is not intended for administrative or management staff (e.g. Hostmasters) . It is assumed that all attendees will be familiar with Border Gateway Protocol routing and with the RIPE Database (i.e. creating/modifying objects). This course is based on interactive exercises in a local network set-up. Please bring your laptops equipped with the following: - A working Ethernet card, - Three meters of Ethernet cable, - A secure connection client, - A web browser. Please be prepared to share your laptop (or at least allow another attendee to "look over your shoulder") if necessary. Please note that the Routing Registry Training Course is conducted in the English language and is free of charge to attend. The cost of the Course is covered by the members contribution every LIR pays when setting up. You can register two participants from your LIR per Course. Dear all, with the new format of the RIPE Meeting at RIPE 50, the plenary (Monday-Wednesday) is the space where most presentation will take place, whereas the working groups are being geared towards being a space for discussion and development of work items leading to recommendations or problem statements. These may be derived from the talks taking place during the plenary and, if content is generated, would ideally result in RIPE Documents. With this in mind, following is the draft agenda for the routing working group at RIPE 50: - Administrativia: Minutes of previous meeting, Appointment of scribe, review of open actions, attendee list - Discussion space for the topics covered in talks: - Traffic engineering and the effect of business practices on the routing table - Route flap damping today in particular discussing the current RIPE Route flap damp(en)ing recommendations as described in RIPE Document 229 and - DDoS Detection & Mitigation Experience using Arbor/Peakflow & Cisco/Guard - Watch your Flows with NfSen and NFDUMP - Traffic Anomaly Detection, DDoS Mitigation, Coordinated Attack Fingerprinting should more time than available in the plenary be necessary for discussion At this time, also, suggestions for topics specific to routing are welcome for inclusion in the agenda Regards Joao Damas ISC
