Dear RIPE Atlas community, My name is Dipsy Desai and I am a fourth year Ph.D. student at University of Southern California. I am conducting a research study examining the routing, performance, and data-residency properties of public recursive DNS services across India. The study will compare Bharat Public DNS (1.10.10.10) with global public resolvers using RIPE Atlas DNS measurements and traceroutes. We will begin with a small pilot (which we anticipate would consume about 60,000 credits) and then expand to a multi-week study across geographically and topologically diverse Indian probes. The measurements will examine latency, availability, routing variation, and client-to-resolver path locality. For the complete study and independent validation measurements, I am seeking up to 4,500,000 RIPE Atlas credits. Any partial donation would also be greatly appreciated. Only established public DNS services and research-controlled infrastructure will be targeted. We intend to make the measurements, analysis code, and results publicly available where possible.
