My name is Dipsy Desai and I am a fourth year Ph.D. student at University of Southern California. I am conducting a research study examining the routing, performance, and data-residency properties of public recursive DNS services across India. The study will compare Bharat Public DNS (|1.10.10.10|) with global public resolvers using RIPE Atlas DNS measurements and traceroutes.
We will begin with a small pilot (which we anticipate would consume about 60,000 credits) and then expand to a multi-week study across geographically and topologically diverse Indian probes. The measurements will examine latency, availability, routing variation, and client-to-resolver path locality.
For the complete study and independent validation measurements, I am seeking up to 4,500,000 RIPE Atlas credits. Any partial donation would also be greatly appreciated.
Only established public DNS services and research-controlled infrastructure will be targeted. We intend to make the measurements, analysis code, and results publicly available where possible.
