[news] Authentication Proposal for RIPE NCC Access

Dear colleagues, In our RIPE NCC Access authentication system, we offer the ability to log in using an X.509 identity certificate instead of a username and password. This functionality was transferred from the legacy authentication system we used to have, without evaluating the value of this feature at the time. Since then, we have encountered several implementation, user interface and support issues surrounding this feature, while it is used by less than 0.7% of the users with a RIPE NCC Access account. Most importantly, the functionality does not actually offer any additional security. This is something that is provided by true two-factor authentication. We would like to propose to put this functionality in maintenance mode, meaning that it would be provided as it is without a service guarantee. Alternatively, it could be removed altogether. This would free us of a maintenance and support burden, meaning that we can spend these resources on other valuable services. If the membership approves, the RIPE NCC could investigate ways to implement true two-factor authentication for RIPE NCC Access. We look forward to hearing your feedback. [news] Announcing RIPE Atlas anchors

Dear colleagues, We're pleased to announce that RIPE Atlas anchors went into production at the RIPE 67 Meeting in Athens in October 2013. Anchors are both enhanced RIPE Atlas probes with more measurement capacity, as well as regional measurement targets within the greater RIPE Atlas network. The RIPE Atlas anchors pilot ran for a year, and there are currently 15 anchors deployed. We are now actively seeking applications from those interested in and capable of hosting a RIPE Atlas anchor in their own networks. [news] RIPE NCC Survey 2013 - Key Findings and Proposed Actions

Dear colleagues, In May and June 2013, the Oxford Internet Institute (OII) carried out the RIPE NCC Survey 2013 on our behalf. Over 3,600 people participated, including from 75 of the 76 countries in our service region. We are extremely grateful to all those who took the time to give their input. The OII analysed the survey data and produced a number of key findings. We examined these findings and we now propose a number of action areas to address the issues brought up in the survey. The document detailing all 48 key findings and the actions proposed by the RIPE NCC is now available at: https://www.ripe.net/survey2013/key-findings-proposed-actions The document outlines actions we propose to take, but it should be noted that work continues in all areas. We will also periodically review the list and make adjustments if necessary. In 2014, we will update the document with the outcomes of the actions taken by the RIPE NCC in each area. RIPE NCC General Meeting October 2013

Dear members, The RIPE NCC General Meeting (GM) was held 16-17 October 2013 adjacent to the RIPE 67 Meeting in Athens. There were 97 attendees, excluding RIPE NCC staff and observers from the other Regional Internet Registries (RIRs). There were four resolutions to be voted on at the GM. The results of voting on the resolutions were as follows: Resolution 1 - The General Meeting approves the new RIPE NCC Conflict Arbitration Procedure Yes - 291 No - 9 Abstain - 47 The resolution passed. Resolution 2: The General Meeting approves the changes to Article 8 of the Articles of Association (increase maximum number of Board members to seven) Yes - 267 No - 47 Abstain - 29 The resolution passed. Resolution 3: The General Meeting approves the changes to Article 9 of the Articles of Association (removal of requirement for Board to choose a candidate to ensure an Executive Board election) Yes - 252 No - 62 Abstain - 28 The resolution passed.
