[ncc-announce] Call for Volunteers for RIPE NCC Panel of Arbiters

[Apologies for duplicate emails] Dear Colleagues, The RIPE NCC Executive Board is seeking volunteers to the panel of arbiters in accordance with the requirements of the RIPE NCC Conflict Arbitration Procedure and the RIPE NCC Articles of Association. Remco van Mook stepped down from the panel of arbiters due to his election to the RIPE NCC Executive Board. The panel of arbiters has expressed the wish to increase its number to ensure the minimum requirement is met that the panel of arbiters consist at all times of at least six people and to spread the work across a broader base of arbiters. The following six people currently make up the panel of arbiters: - Jaap Akkerhuis, RIPE DNS Working Group Co-chair - Kurt Kayser, Self-employed - David Kessens, RIPE IPv6 Working Group Chair - Olof Kolkman, Internet Architecture Board Chairman - Keith Mitchell, former RIPE NCC Executive Board Chairman - Wilfried Woeber, RIPE Database Working Group Chair The Executive Board asks for your assistance in providing suitable new members of the panel of arbiters. The Executive Board will then appoint several arbiters, depending on the number of volunteers. These appointments will be presented to the RIPE NCC General Meeting on 17 November 2010 for approval by the membership. [ncc-announce] RIPE Labs article on the Duke/RIPE NCC BGP experiment

Dear Colleagues, On Friday, 27 August, at 08:41 (UTC), RIPE NCC staff involved in the Routing Information Service (RIS) project conducted an Internet routing experiment in conjunction with a research group from Duke University in the United States. The goal of this experiment was to further global understanding of Internet routing behaviour, specifically the use of optional attributes in Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). The experiment ended as scheduled at 09:08 (UTC). Shortly after this, we discovered that the experiment had caused an unexpected and unintended negative impact on Internet operations, lasting for approximately 30 minutes. [ncc-announce] LIR Portal Upgrade

Dear Colleagues, The RIPE NCC is currently upgrading the LIR Portal to a newer software version, increasing the flexibility, quality and reliability, and including a single sign-on system. To help ensure a smooth deployment, the upgrade is rolled out in stages. The first stage of deployment, upgrading the Billing section of the site, was carried out on 14 April 2010. The Training section and the Resource Lists were upgraded as well. The second stage, which includes all resource request forms and wizards, will be deployed today, 31 August. Downtime of the portal should be less than one minute. The deployment of the new portal software including the sign-in system does not yet include the entire LIR Portal. Users may find that they are asked to sign in more than once as they move between different sections of the site. This will continue until the single sign-on system has been fully deployed throughout the LIR Portal. The remaining old LIR Portal sections will be replaced in the final upgrade, scheduled to take place in the fourth quarter of 2010. After this final deployment, all functionality of the LIR Portal will be available under the single sign-on system. The migration to newer software might result in some small changes, but the overall look and feel should not be affected in a very noticeable way. This is the first time a MENOG/RIPE NCC Regional Meeting will be held in Turkey. We would like to thank the hosts Terremark and Turk Telekom for supporting this event. MENOG meetings are excellent opportunities to share ideas and experiences with other network operators and network engineers from across the Middle East, to develop cross-regional cooperation and to meet with key players in the local and global Internet industry. Dear Colleagues, The RIPE NCC Regional Meeting will take place at the Marriott Grand Hotel in Moscow from 29 September - 1 October 2010. This is an excellent opportunity to meet with colleagues from the Russian region, key players in the global and local Internet industry, and RIPE NCC staff. The meeting is hosted by the Coordination Center for TLD RU. Register ----------- This meeting is free to attend, but you must register in advance. [Apologies for duplicates] Dear Colleagues, This is a last-call reminder to participate in the 2010 Global IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey, conducted by GNKS Consult and TNO in collaboration with the RIPE NCC. The survey is available at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/IPv6deploymentmonitoring2010 The deadline to complete the survey is this Thursday, 1 July 2010. All five Regional Internet Registries have committed to soliciting participation in this survey in order to compile the most complete global IPv6 deployment data possible. The goal of the survey is to gain a better understanding of where the community is moving, and what can be done to ensure the Internet community is ready for the widespread adoption of IPv6. We encourage all organisations in the RIPE NCC service region to participate in this survey, which we hope will establish a comprehensive view of present IPv6 penetration and future plans for IPv6 deployment. The survey is composed of 23 questions and can be completed in about 15 minutes. For those without IPv6 allocations or assignments, or who have not yet deployed IPv6, the questions will be fewer in number. Results of the IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey will be presented and discussed at RIPE 61, which will be held 15-19 November in Rome, Italy. Dear Colleagues, From Thursday, 1 July 2010, the RIPE NCC will start to allocate enough IPv4 address space to Local Internet Registries (LIRs) to meet their needs for a period of up to nine months. The RIPE NCC and the LIRs will also start to assign enough address space to meet the requester needs for a period of up to nine months. We ask that you please note this change from the current 12-month period. This change is in accordance with RIPE Policy Proposal 2009-03, "Run Out Fairly".
