Is there a good reason to continue having the unmoderated mailing lists?

Hello everybody, I was going through the mailman instance and came across these two -unmoderated lists: https://mailman.ripe.net/archives/list/members-discuss-unmoderated@ripe.net/ https://mailman.ripe.net/archives/list/ripe-list-unmoderated@ripe.net/ These mailing lists appear to be almost entirely full of spam/garbage, with such items like: * Petroleum Product Allocation * "Signed Contract Agreement.pdf" * "bulletproof RDP/unlimited SMTP/https cpanel" * "DHL Shipping Document/Tracking No Confirmation" * Apply For UK Loan Desire Is there much reason to keep these lists around? I assume keeping it this way poses some challenges towards MTA IP reputation at the very least, and people who are subscribed to a mailing list have some stake in ensuring that they can continue to receive email from RIPE mailing lists! Call for Volunteers for Executive Board Election Code of Conduct Team

Dear members, This is a call for volunteers from the membership to join the Executive Board Election Code of Conduct Team for the May 2025 General Meeting election. The Executive Board election of 2025 will be the fifth to have a Code of Conduct (CoC) for Executive Board Election candidates. This is separate from the RIPE NCC Code of Conduct and RIPE community CoC. This code only applies to confirmed candidates during the election process. The Executive Board Election Code of Conduct Team will evaluate reports of violations of the CoC and if a violation has occurred. The team for 2024 was made up of five volunteers and the Executive Board would like to express thanks to Cynthia Revström, Sebastian Becker, Nick Hilliard, Dr. Omid Mahdi Ebadati and Arnold Nipper who carried out this important work. The Executive Board would now like to ask for volunteers from the membership to be on the Executive Board Election Code of Conduct Team for the May 2025 election. The task of this team will be to evaluate any reports of violations of the election Code of Conduct by candidates. If the team confirms that a violation of the election Code of Conduct has taken place, disqualification of the candidate in question can take place. If you are willing to participate in this role, please send an email to: agm(a)ripe.net by *Wednesday 12 February 2025*. The Board will then appoint members of the team from the list of volunteers. Members should not volunteer if they expect to become candidates in the election. v6 categories. Is this not the time to go to a flat charge per holder regardless of size and avoid re creating the v4 problem. If v6 should follow v4 problems then the same category issues may arise. v4 legacy resources: A few things seem self evident 1. holders don't trust what might happen if they convert it 2. holders should not be put in peril if you want them to convert 3. once it is not legacy there is no going back unless the holder has not changed anything about it (ie they can roll back to escape unfavourable policy only). 4. when legacy changes hands then it should lose legacy status, triggers will include: if sold in some manner the controlling organisation changes and is no longer clearly part of the same org (with vagueness to cover gaming, RIPE decides). It has to remain in essentially the same legacy state or it is no longer legacy. Simplest is to just require legacy holders to be a member either for the legacy or any other space (so only one membership). brandon

Hi, Would it be possible to also send the monthly membership update in the old-fashioned plain-text-in-the-mail with the option to view it on the web, i.e. revert to the pre-July 2023 format? I know there are pros and cons for both options, such as the ability to measure how many members click on the link / are interested in the update, but it would be more user-friendly to be able to search through my own email archive instead of the RIPE NCC website. As tensions in the relationship and the crisis increase, the desire to filter content by the authorities will grow rapidly. By the way, this has already begun in the EU, does no one see it? Serious concerns about the RIPE NCC Cloud Technology Status

Hi all, As we have seen in the past several Information Services updates from Felipe, the RIPE NCC has been moving a lot of services to the cloud, this now also includes things like RIPE NCC email, calendars, chat and video conferencing. The follwoing page gives a helpful overview of these services and the relevant cloud platforms: https://www.ripe.net/publications/documentation/cloud-technology-status/ The page states that "all services pass an internal process of strict legal, information security, technology and privacy reviews". That all sounds very reassuring, doesn't it? However.. Even though the "Data Residency" column states "EU" for all these services, these cloud providers are a U.S. legal entity (or a foreign entity with an office in the U.S.), so the data stored on these platforms completely falls under U.S. legislation, such as the CLOUD act and numerous related acts and laws. It is completely irrelevant where this data is stored geographically. This also means that the data stored on these platforms can be subject to U.S. law enforcement warrants and subpoenas. As a concerned and privacy aware citizen, i find it very worrying that basically all my interactions with the RIPE NCC in some way end up in the hands of U.S. based cloud providers. But i can imagine that these concerns are much more serious for RIPE members in countries that have a less favourable relation with the U.S. (there are quite a number of those countries within the RIPE service region) What do other members think about this, and has the RIPE NCC taken these consequences into account when they decided to move all this data and services to U.S. based hyperscalers? Hi, Thanks for the meeting minutes, they’re always interesting to read. I’ve been wondering about the redistribution for years, but I guess never really voiced my thoughts about them. Referring to items and discussion under section 3 and section 6, why do we nowadays (and seemingly want to continue to) redistribute part of the precious year’s membership fee back to members? As a transaction it’s like lending money at zero interest and then possibly (optionality) having the excess, which wasn’t used for operations, netted against the membership fee the following year. Should there be an excess and should the GM vote in favor of it, I mean. I realize an extra-extra buffer improves working capital but to me it would seem like RIPE has ample amounts of cash at hand as well as in reserves so that seems like an unlikely reason. Dear all, Yesterday, we had an Open House on the Draft RIPE NCC Activity Plan and Budget 2025. The recording is now available at: https://www.ripe.net/draft-activity-plan-open-house-2025/ The session saw statements from our Executive Board Chair and Treasurer, and presentations from our Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer. These were followed by a Q&A with members. Please view the recording and if you have comments or opinions you'd like to share, please discuss on this list so we can consider your input when drafting the final version of the Activity Plan and Budget for next year. And we ask that you register for the General Meeting taking place on 30 October, where there will be further presentations on our plans for next year among other items. Hi I have attached the email, I didn’t click on it. I think RIPE NCC should immediately make a member based wide announcement and clarification on registry assisted check should look like. Think what happen to LIR account last year, this is very scary. -- Kind regards. Lu
