Dear RIPE NCC member, The RIPE NCC is making a last call for nominations to the RIPE NCC Executive Board. The vacant seats are for two three-year terms and are to fill the places currently held by Fahad AlShirawi and Andreas Wittkemper, whose terms expire in May 2011. Voting for the appointment of the RIPE NCC Executive Board members will take place at the upcoming RIPE NCC General Meeting (GM). The GM will be held on Wednesday, 4 May 2011 from 16:00-20:00 (UTC), adjacent to the RIPE 62 Meeting, which takes place from 2-6 May 2011 at the NL Krasnapolsky Hotel, Amsterdam. You must be registered for the GM if you wish to attend and vote in the Executive Board election. If you would like to vote but cannot attend the GM, there are two options that will allow you to vote in the Executive Board elections: Electronic Voting All RIPE NCC members who are registered contacts were emailed invitations on 4 April 2011 to register to vote electronically at the GM. If you wish to vote electronically, you must register to do so by 23:59 (UTC) on 20 April 2011. Dear Colleagues, At the upcoming RIPE NCC General Meeting (GM) in Amsterdam on 4 May 2010, electronic voting in the elections for the RIPE NCC Executive Board seats will be facilitated. Those attending the GM on site can vote either electronically or by using the traditional paper ballot method. The RIPE NCC uses BigPulse, a third party that specialises in web-based voting solutions, to conduct the poll. Today, 4 April 2011, you will receive an email from the RIPE NCC inviting you to register for electronic voting with the BigPulse system. You should follow the instructions in the invitation email if you wish to register for electronic voting. The deadline to register for electronic voting is 20 April 2011. Those attending the GM who wish to vote electronically must also register by 20 April. It will not be possible to register to vote electronically on the day of the GM. If you think you are entitled to vote but do not receive the invitation to register, please contact <agm(a)ripe.net> to let us know. This document covers the most common types of requests that reflect the business models and technology deployments in the RIPE NCC service region. This is an excellent opportunity to meet with colleagues from the Russian region, key players in the global and local Internet industry, and RIPE NCC staff. The GM will be held adjacent to the RIPE 62 Meeting, which takes place from 2-6 May 2011 at the NH Krasnapolsky Hotel in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The GM will consist of two parts: * The RIPE NCC Services Working Group session will begin at 16:00 and will include the presentation of the report from the RIPE NCC. This part of the GM is open to everyone. * The second part of the GM follows immediately after the RIPE NCC Services Working Group session and is only open to RIPE NCC members who have registered for the GM. This part of the meeting is the forum in which RIPE NCC members can discuss the operations and activities of the RIPE NCC and exercise their voting rights. We updated the procedural document because ripe-511 contained a redundant paragraph that was also referencing another procedural document (ripe-475) that was obsoleted. The document is available at: https://www.ripe.net/ripe/docs/ripe-517 This document replaces sections in two RIPE Documents that deal with the closure of LIRs and the deregistration of resources: - Sections 3.0 and 4.0 of ripe-301, "Mergers, Acquisitions, Takeovers and Closures of Organisations Operating an LIR". These sections are entitled "Closing an LIR" and "When an LIR is Closed by the RIPE NCC", respectively. This service is accessible to the public and enables users to see the concentration of RIPE NCC members in cities and countries. RIPE NCC members can log in to to their LIR Portal account and either confirm the geo-location that we have determined for your registry's address from your public records or change it to any location within your registered country. Dear colleagues, The IANA IPv4 free pool was exhausted today, 3 February 2011. Each of the Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) has now received one of the final five /8s. The RIPE NCC has been allocated 185/8. The RIPE NCC is holding reserves totaling approximately four /8s (around 75 million individual IPv4 addresses), not including 185/8. We will continue to distribute IPv4 addresses from our reserves according to the current policy, ripe-509, "IPv4 Address Allocation and Assignment Policies for the RIPE NCC Service Region": http://www.ripe.net/ripe/docs/ripe-509.html When our reserves are exhausted, we will begin to distribute IPv4 addresses from 185/8 according to section 5.6 of ripe-509: http://ripe.net/ripe/docs/ipv4-policies.html#----use-of-last----for-pa-allo… This policy states that each Local Internet Registry (LIR) will receive one /22 (1024 IPv4 addresses) from 185/8 upon application for IPv4 resources. In order to obtain this /22 allocation, the LIR must already have requested an IPv6 allocation. For more information about how to deploy IPv6, please see: http://www.ipv6actnow.org As we unable to anticipate consumption rates, we cannot fully predict how long our reserves will last. However, we would like to reassure you that our supplies will not be exhausted within the coming months. [ncc-announce] Mark Your Calendar: RIPE NCC Regional Meeting/Eurasia Network Operators' Group (ENOG)

Dear Colleagues, The RIPE NCC Regional Meeting/Eurasia Network Operators' Group (ENOG) will take place in Moscow from 6-8 June 2011. This will be the first ever combined RIPE NCC Regional Meeting/ENOG Meeting. We are also happy to announce that a second meeting is to be scheduled for later this year. At the Moscow RIPE NCC Regional Meeting in September 2010, attendees decided to further their cooperation by proposing the creation of a regional forum in which the region’s Internet experts could collaborate on issues unique to the Russian Federation, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Eastern Europe and other interested parties. This forum is now established as ENOG, and the RIPE NCC is dedicated to actively support and facilitate this newly formed operators' group. The RIPE NCC Regional Meeting/ENOG is a forum for open dialogue, and it's available for all interested parties to attend. This is where network operators can meet their peers and learn from international and local Internet experts. Operational content will be a central part of the agenda. Topics will cover challenges, tools, experiences and best practices in areas such as DNS, peering, routing, IPv6 and more. For the first time at a RIPE NCC Regional Meeting, a day will be dedicated to RIPE activities, where RIPE Policies will be presented and openly discussed. We're already looking forward to an exciting and productive meeting. [ncc-announce] RIPE NCC Resource Certification Service Launch

Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC is proud to announce the production launch of the RIPE NCC resource certification service. With the support of the RIPE community, we have worked very hard to create a service that will help to make our registry more robust and provide a vital element in making Internet routing more secure. Now, more than ever, it is important to be sure who is the legitimate holder of a block of IP addresses. As a first step, the RIPE NCC (in coordination with the other four RIRs) has created a hosted platform. This means that all LIRs will be able to generate a certificate of holdership that will be held in a repository maintained by the RIPE NCC. The feature set is, as it stands, very limited: the certificate will only cover Provider Aggregatable address space, and it is not yet possible to run your own Certificate Authority or generate "child" certificates to create a chain of trust. All of these capabilities will be rolled out over the course of 2011, based on the wishes and input of the RIPE community. This brings me to an important point. While the technology is now in place, the policy describing the details of the certification system has not yet passed the RIPE Policy Development Process. We have decided, however, to launch the system with the most limited feature set possible, so that the membership can try it out. Our hope is that this will make resource certification more tangible, and assist the community in making an informed decision about what the system should offer, now and in the future.
