Good Morning,
The Co-Chairs would very much like to ask everyone to look at keeping email list discussion in emails, please. This email will appear to be targeted, and it is somewhat, of course, but we wanted to say this out loud before anyone, especially new members of
the community, misinterpreted things.
While discussion, and the analysis of points etc. is vital to the community, we do not believe this is improved by the exchange of long attached PDF documents (or any other kind of attached doc). This is not what we would consider a community norm, nor does
it facilitate discussion. The presentation value of an argument is not something that is considered during any evaluation of consensus. We're not saying that everything has to be in plain text only, but the discussion should be contained within the body of
an email that can be easily read. (Those who wish to debate the finer points of this can buy me a beverage in Sofia and we can hash that out there!)
We would also like to add that before engaging in discussion it is strongly recommended that everyone familiarise themselves with the Policy Development Process -
https://www.ripe.net/community/policies/ - which, amongst other things, specifically states that the NCC have to publish an impact analysis of any proposal before it can move to Review Phase, and I guarantee
you the good folks in the NCC are paying attention to this policy and the discussion, as they do for all proposals.
As always, the Co-Chairs can be reached at security-wg-chairs@ripe.net if you'd like to ask us anything about the PDP or before posting, or just because you like us and would like to send us email!
Regards,
Brian
