[routing-wg]Announce: BGP-Inspect-RIPE
All, I was asked to re-announce our tool to this forum as some people might have missed the original announcement on the nanog mailing list. BGP-Inpsect is a project from Merit Network Inc, and the University of Maryland which provides easy access to archived BGP data from various archives such as Routeviews or RIPE. Uptill now the only data that was available thru our database was a subset of the Routeview data. Additional BGP-Inspect sites are now available as well. This should provide much better visibility than before. The new sites are: - BGP-Inspect-RIPE(http://bgpinspect.merit.edu:9090): Partial RIPE BGP update data, Data from Jan 1 2006 onwards - BGP-Inspect-Merit(http://bgpinspect.merit.edu:8080): Partial Merit BGP update data, Data from Jan 1 2006 onwards The old site was: - BGP-Inspect-Routeviews(http://bgpinspect.merit.edu) Partial Routeviews Data, Data from Aug 1 2005 onwards A new feature that we wanted to announce that has not seen a lot of use is the ability to select multiple "peers" in a single query. This allows you to query for a prefix/AS across multiple peers with a single query. Just hold down the ctrl key to select the peers you wish to query. Usage instructions and some frequently asked questions/answers are available at: http://bgpinspect.merit.edu/faq.php Comments are welcome (offlist please). thanks manish

Any specific reason to have them on non-standard ports that don't get past my packet filter here? Yours, Elmi. -- "Begehe nur nicht den Fehler, Meinung durch Sachverstand zu substituieren." The goal was to demo the concept and then hopefully get the RIPE folks to host the actual servers. Our hardware was limited, right now we are running all 3 sites out of the same physical box. One workaround might be for us to work around this using different DNS names if a lot of people cannot reach those ports. If other people are facing the same problem please let me know and I can get something setup in our DNS for this. thanks manish On Fri, 20 Jan 2006, Elmar K. Bins wrote:

Manish, others,
The goal was to demo the concept and then hopefully get the RIPE folks to host the actual servers.
This will require some resources from our sides (buy and set up machines, keep them running). Before we do this, I'd like to hear from people who used the tool if it is useful and something that they think should be added to the standard RIS tools. Henk
