Re: The Top 20 and some deltas

Please don't speak for AlterNet. Thanks, --asp@uunet.uu.net (Andrew Partan)
Before anyone freaks out, I'd like to make sure the numbers are correct here. I really don't think we added 625 network routes last week. I don't have the exact number, but I can find out. Last weeks report said we withdrew 500 or so routes. This was indeed wrong. We do aggregate. We have a block which we assign to our customers. Most of them choose a CIDR network. We have incentives for them to do it. We do get the occasional customer who wants to route their network. However, I doubt it is 625. I will check. Our CIDR policy is public and I have discussed it with many people in bgpd. If the reports are based on a routing table dump at a given location on the Internet every week and compared to last weeks dump of routes, then a nicely timed event could skew the stats. mf

They are, and it is specifically mentioned twice in the report. In my opinion, measures as Vadim stated should not be based on the output of the report. As Tony mentioned more than once, we are not the CIDR police, we merely want to provide some indication of the CIDR capabilities of the various ASes and flag possible room for improvement. -Marten
Hmm...seems I better comment seeing as you are all believing the report as gospel. "Mark S. Currently I see 679 classfull routes in AS2149 and 760 in AS174. * Last weeks report said we withdrew 500 or so routes. This was indeed * wrong. * Well as far as it shows 500+ routes went from AS174. As I look at the daily deltas I see there is in fact a flip every now and then between the two ASes. Please all read the report and understand it for what it is....an indicator. If you see interesting information check the individual stats files. If this is causing people problems I can withdraw the reports. * mf --Tony.
