-------------------- CALL FOR PAPERS ----------------- The 2nd IEEE Internacional Workshop of Smart Communication Protocols and Algorithms (IEEE SCPA 2012 - Summer) June 10-15, 2012, Ottawa, CANADA In conjunction with IEEE ICC 2012 http://scpa.it.ubi.pt/2012 Selected papers will be invited to the Special Issue on Smart Protocols and Algorithms of the International Journal Network Protocols and Algorithms (ISSN 1943-3581) Communication protocols and algorithms are needed to communicate network devices and exchange data between them. The appearance of new technologies usually comes with a protocol procedure and communication rules that allows data communication while taking profit of this new technology. Recent advances in hardware and communication mediums allow proposing new rules, conventions and data structures which could be used by network devices to communicate across the network. Moreover, devices with higher processing capacity let us include more complex algorithms that can be used by the network device to enhance the communication procedure. Smart communication protocols and algorithms make use of several methods and techniques (such as machine learning techniques, decision making techniques, knowledge representation, network management, network optimization, problem solution techniques, and so on), to communicate the network devices to transfer data between them. They can be used to perceive the network conditions, or the user behavior, in order to dynamically plan, adapt, decide, take the appropriate actions, and learn from the consequences of its actions. The algorithms can make use of the information gathered from the protocol in order to sense the environment, plan actions according to the input, take consciousness of what is happening in the environment, and take the appropriate decisions using a reasoning engine. Goals such as decide which scenario fits best its end-to-end purpose, or environment prediction, can be achieved with smart protocols and algorithms. Moreover, they could learn from the past and ! use this knowledge to improve futur e decisions. In this workshop, researchers are encouraged to submit papers focused on the design, development, analysis or optimization of smart communication protocols or algorithms at any communication layer. Algorithms and protocols based on artificial intelligence techniques for network management, network monitoring, quality of service enhancement, performance optimization and network secure are included in the workshop. We welcome technical papers presenting analytical research, simulations, practical results, position papers addressing the pros and cons of specific proposals, and papers addressing the key problems and solutions. The topics suggested by the conference can be discussed in term of concepts, state of the art, standards, deployments, implementations, running experiments and applications. Call for Papers Special Issue on "Localization, Positioning and Coverage in Wireless Sensor Networks" International Journal of Ad Hoc and Ubiquitous Computing (IJAHUC) Journal Impact Factor: 0.435 (2010) http://www.inderscience.com/browse/callpaper.php?callID=1741 In Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) deployments, wireless sensor nodes should be strategically placed in order to maximize the sensed area while minimizing the number of nodes to be placed in the field. Moreover, wireless radio coverage distances should be taken into account in order to cover large areas. Wireless sensors may be located quite far from each other, allowing lower deployment costs, but it may increase the wireless sensor node power consumption due to the energy needed to reach large distances. Although many factors may affect the position of each wireless sensor node inside the WSN, there are two main ones: the radio coverage area, which allows the sensors to communicate, and, the sensing coverage area, which gives the sensing region. Both types of coverage areas could be affected by the field where the WSN is deployed, but different factors affect each type of coverage. The goal is to maximize the coverage percentage, while coverage holes should be minimized. This special issue is focused on sensor node location and positioning techniques taking into account the aforementioned constraints. Suitable topics include but are not limited to: - WSN radio coverage. - WSN sensing field. - WSN deployment zones. - Isotropic and sectorial sensing nodes. - Positioning systems. - Node location techniques. - Analytical node placement systems. - 2D and 3D Regions of Interest in WSNs. - Theoretical systems and analytical methods to maximize the radio and sensing coverage. - Sensing gain and power gain systems. - Sleep scheduling techniques for enhancing WSN coverage. - Self-organization Strategies. [Apologies for duplicate emails] Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC is aware that 128.0.0.0/16 is configured as a martian by default in (some) Juniper OS, even though RFC 5735 and RFC3330 outline that this /16 should no longer be reserved as specialised address space. We are exchanging the allocations that were already issued and for now we will (temporarily) stop using this specific /16. The RIPE NCC is working on this matter. RIPE 63 attendees interested in Resource Certification/RPKI are encouraged to take part in a workshop on Monday, 31 October from 9:30-12:30 in the Park Congress 2+3 rooms. ===================== What you'll learn ===================== The workshop will focus on BGP Origin Validation, based on the Resource Public Key Infrastructure (RPKI). You will learn how RPKI enables network operators to make more reliable routing decisions and how it protects against accidental mis-origination, the most common routing error we see today. Using various open-source tools from rpki.net and the RIPE NCC, you will be able to set up a resource certificate and create Route Origin Authorisation (ROA) objects, stating which Autonomous Systems are authorised to originate the prefixes you hold. After publishing your ROAs, you can validate them and configure routers to set routing preferences based on the RPKI status of your prefixes. This workshop will be a collaboration between Rob Austein, Randy Bush, Michael Elkins, Benno Overeinder (NLNet Labs), Jac Kloots (SURFnet), Cisco Systems, Juniper Networks and the RIPE NCC. ========================= Participation Details ========================= You do not need to register for this workshop. There are no prerequisites for using the rpki.net tools. In order to generate a certificate and configure ROAs on the RIPE NCC pilot server, you'll need to have an LIR Portal user account with access to the certification system or know the administrator credentials for your LIR Portal account.
