Update to weekly routing analysis summary

Hi, This is to inform you of a small modification to my weekly posting to this list. The "List of Illegal ASes" in the report has been replaced with the "List of Unregistered ASes". Basically this includes the previous private AS and reserved AS announcements, but adds to it the list of ASes announced for which there is no registration information contained in APNIC, ARIN, RIPE NCC, or DDN NIC (US Military) databases. At first run there are three new ASes appearing in this list, in addition to the quantity of private ASes being leaked to the Internet. They are 1877, 2027 and 5757. Use of advisory attribute

Routing Folks, I've been looking over the 'advisory' attribute, mostly in preparation for the upcoming RIPE-181 to RPSL conversion (RPSL does not have this attribute). The advisory attribute itself suffers from a severe lack of documentation. In the current database documents, we see the following: RIPE-157: listed as for the route object, with the format <ASnnnn> <as-specific information> RIPE-181: not present RIPE-189: in the route template only As for how the attribute is actually used, I found 2726 route objects with the attribute. Of these, there are only 111 unique origin AS. As for the AS actually listed as the target of the advisory, there are only 13 unique AS! The actual frequencies are: AS517: 8 AS670: 1 AS690: 2703 AS702: 2 AS1275: 13 AS1717: 1 AS1755: 2 AS2917: 5 AS3220: 3 AS3257: 1 AS3328: 1 AS3561: 1 AS6830: 2 AS690, the Merit network, seems to have a specific format for their advisory attribute (which I can guess at, but not really be sure what it means). This is not shared by all of the other AS's who use the advisory attribute. So, some questions are: Is there a BCP for this attribute? And can anyone explain how and why it is used? Can somebody suggest an alternative method to obtain the same results in RPSL? The report is split into sections: 0) General Status List the route table history for the last week, list any possibly bogus routes seen and give some status on ASes. 1) Gains by aggregating at the origin AS level This lists the "Top 30" players who if they decided to aggregate their announced classful prefixes at the origin AS level could make a significant difference in the reduction of the current size of the Internet routing table. This calculation does not take into account the inclusion of holes when forming an aggregate so it is possible even larger reduction should be possible. 2) Weekly Delta A summary of the last weeks changes in terms of withdrawn and added routes. Please note that this is only a snapshot but does give some indication of ASes participating in CIDR. Clearly, it is generally a good thing to see a large amont of withdrawls. 3) Interesting aggregates Interesting here means not an aggregate made as a set of classful routes.
