Dear colleagues,
ARTEMIS is an open-source tool for detecting BGP prefix hijacking in
real time. Please find an update of the ARTEMIS project on RIPE Labs:

You can find more details about the project in this earlier article:

Dear Routing WG,
My company has couple of prefixes (listed at the bottom of this e-mail) that are advertised via ASN 1787 to China Telecom (ASN 4809) and China Unicom (ASN 4837). Unfortunately this is not something I could see in BGPlay. I would assume this is because there is no route collector in China. Is there any chance there will be one in the future?

2018-06 Review Phase (RIPE NCC IRR Database Non-Authoritative Route Object Clean-up)
by Marco Schmidt 16 Aug '19

16 Aug '19
Dear colleagues,
Policy proposal 2018-06, "RIPE NCC IRR Database Non-Authoritative Route
Object Clean-up", is now in the Review Phase.
The goal of the proposal is to delete an non-authoritative object stored
in the RIPE IRR, if it conflicts with an RPKI ROA.
The proposal has been updated following the last round of discussion and
is now at version v3.0. Some of the differences from version v2.0 include:
- Provides details about the process how to identify and solve conflicts
The RIPE NCC has prepared an impact analysis on this latest proposal
version to support the community’s discussion. You can find the full
proposal and impact analysis at:
https://www.ripe.net/participate/policies/proposals/2018-06
And the draft documents at:
https://www.ripe.net/participate/policies/proposals/2018-06/draft
As per the RIPE Policy Development Process (PDP), the purpose of this
four week Review Phase is to continue discussion of the proposal, taking
the impact analysis into consideration, and to review the full draft
RIPE Policy Document.
At the end of the Review Phase, the Working Group (WG) Chairs will
determine whether the WG has reached rough consensus. It is therefore
important to provide your opinion, even if it is simply a restatement of
your input from the previous phase.
We encourage you to read the proposal, impact analysis and draft
document and send any comments to <routing-wg(a)ripe.net> before 12
September 2019.
Kind regards,
Marco Schmidt
Policy Officer

Hi,
just a heads up in regard to ripe-580. It states that "The default
values used in current implementations of RFD apply a penalty of 1000
each time a route flaps".
At least for Juniper that is not the case. Or to quote them directly:
A figure-of-merit value of zero is assigned to each new route. The
value is increased each time the route is withdrawn or readvertised,
or when one of its path attributes changes. With each incident of
instability, the value increases as follows:
Route is withdrawn: 1000
Route is readvertised: 1000
Route's path attributes change: 500
Note:
Other vendors' implementations for figure-of-merit
increase the value only when a route is withdrawn.
The Junos OS implementation for figure-of-merit
increases the value for both route withdrawal and
route readvertisement. To accommodate other
implementations for figure-of-merit, multiply the
reuse and suppress threshold values by 2.
So yeah, if you want to use ripe-580 on Junos gear you should probably
multiply the suppress/cutoff value by 2.
Regards
Sebastian

Dear Routing WG,
Recently NTT investigated how to best monitor the visibility of our own and
our subsidiaries’ IP resources in the BGP Default-Free Zone. We were
specifically looking how to get near real-time alerts funneled into an
actionable pipeline for our NOC & Operations department when BGP hijacks
happen.
Previously we relied on a commercial “BGP Monitoring as a Service”
offering, but with the advent of RIPE NCC’s “RIS Live” streaming API [1] we
saw greater potential for a self-hosted approach designed specifically for
custom integrations with various business processes. We decided to write
our own tool “BGPalerter” and share the source code with the Internet
community.
BGPalerter allows operators to specify in great detail how to distribute
meaningful information from the firehose from various BGP data sources (we
call them “connectors”), through data processors (called “monitors”),
finally outputted through “reports” into whatever mechanism is appropriate
(Slack, IRC, email, or a call to your ticketing system’s API).
The source code is available on Github, under a liberal open source license
to foster community collaboration:
https://github.com/nttgin/BGPalerter
If you wish to contribute to the project, please use Github’s “issues” or
“pull request” features. Any help is welcome! We’d love suggestions for new
features, updates to the documentation, help with setting up a CI
regression testing pipeline, or packaging for common platforms.
Kind regards,
Job & Massimo
