Dear RIS team. Can you tell me if it is possible to start decommissioning abcoude? Some backgroundinfo: we are in the process of getting rid of all sparcs. By the end of this month only 5 sparcs will be in the SUN-support contract. And abcoude is not one of them, as it is a 2nd backup for weesp/halfweg. Thanks, Gerard.

Good morning Gerard,
Can you tell me if it is possible to start decommissioning abcoude?
No, not by now. We are thinking to replace abcoude's hardware with Dell and continue to keep it as DB backup server or do some load balancing for DB queries. Until then, I prefer to leave abcoude running as DB backup server f or weesp. If it dies, we have the copy of data on weesp. That would not cause any trouble for us. Arife

Hmmmm... wasn't weesp already bought as abcoude's replacement (with a note that halfweg might need upgrading or replacing in 2004)? All that's left on abcoude is the Mammoth tape drive which, I guess, should be moved to weesp, and the RAID system. James

Yes, that was the intention. As Gerard suggest let's discuss it on Monday meeting whether we like to have backup DB server or not.

Mammoth is already attached to halfweg. Arife

That was my impression as well. IIRC, we left Abcoude on because it didn't do any harm, not becasue we need it. Henk
