Hi Andrew, We currently have three machines in total using Microsoft Media on Windows 2000 SP4. (Encoder, streamer on location, public streamer) The reason we choose for Windows 2000 and Microsoft Media is that when we started (2003) this was the most compatible and easy to install solution. Next year our hardware will be replaced and we'll be thinking about other software as well as using open standards to encode and broadcast: - vlc http://www.videolan.org/ - mp4live http://mpeg4ip.sourceforge.net/index.php - dss http://developer.apple.com/darwin/projects/streaming/ - helix https://helixcommunity.org/ Although we have done some testing, the replacement project has not officially started and we have not made decisions yet.. So we at ripe ncc are also interested in knowing if anyone has any experience with these or other solutions that he/she is willing to share?
