Hello, The RIPE 54 Meeting in Tallinn, Estonia takes place next week, and as usual we will be webcasting the event. As for previous meetings, we will provide a Windows Media stream at the following locations: mms://webcast.ripe.net/ripemtg Audio and Video of sessions in the "Grande" room mms://webcast.ripe.net/ripemtg-audio1 Audio only of sessions in the "Bolero" room These streams are viewable in Windows Media Player as well as applications on other major platforms. As an experiment for RIPE 54 we will also provide a QuickTime (MPEG-4) stream of sessions in the "Grande" room at the following location: rtsp://qtstreamer.ripemtg.ripe.net/ripemtg.sdp This stream is viewable in QuickTime Player and the latest versions (with H.264 support) of applications such as VLC for other platforms If you would be willing to be a mirror of one or more of these streams then please let me know as soon as possible and provide the following information: - IP address of your server (so we can open up filters if necessary) - Which stream(s) - URL(s) of the mirrored stream(s) - IPv4 or IPv6 We will be setting up the RIPE Meeting network in Tallinn on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and will provide a test stream from as early as possible during this period. The size of the images is too small to read the slides or show the presenter in any great detail. Effectively the files you can download are excessively large audio tracks that need to be accompanied by the PDF of the slides. Is it possible to increase the amount of screenspace used by the webcast? I'd like to see something taking up at least 4"x3". I realise that we may want to use a different size for the live webcasts, but we should offer a decent resolution on the downloaded version, or a choice of: * crappy * okayish * quite good * go and buy a new monitor Or we could just upload it all to youtube.com? Incidentally, I found it painful watching a 10 minute presentation. Is it possible to get the stream optimised for presentations?

My complaint may be premature as the meeting hasn't really started yet, but I just checked the test-stream that is available and found that nothing really has changed since the last meeting. VLC report that the following stream-elements are available: [00000370] access_mms access: selecting stream[0x1] audio (15 kb/s) [00000370] access_mms access: selecting stream[0x2] video (495 kb/s) [00000370] access_mms access: ignoring stream[0x3] video (300 kb/s) [00000370] access_mms access: ignoring stream[0x4] video (41 kb/s) If this is what we'll get the result will be poor audio quality and low resolution video with a high frame-rate that is wasted with mostly static images (presentations). I'd suggest to change the priorities slightly: - Increase audio-bandwidth to 64k - Minimize video frame-rate. 1fps is fine for meeting/presentations - Increase video-resolution Lately I've used 64k audio combined with 128k video (720x576@1fps) for similar purposes with excellent result. That is with ogg/vorbis/theora encoding (flumotion). I'm not sure what the MS-stuff you're using can achieve in comparison, but it must me possible to make it better than the current stream that appear optimized for movie/video broadcast. //per

Could you please stick webcasting the slides during the talk, rather than switching to the speaker and the room? That would help following the presentation. Today the audio is quite good, but now and then is very confused.
