Oh Peter, who told you that there is 2 Mbps available between UK and DE? It is just one 64 K IXI channel in the moment, 2 Mbps will be in September/October I guess.
I have heard about this magic thing, named X25 that are used to get good quality service. But here it looks like a problem.
Going to Germany about the same distance as to Amsterdam, takes close to twenty times of what it takes to Tokyo. Virginia in the US as also close..

At the end of December 1991, the VUB/ULB attached a CISCO router to obtain IP connectivity over our IXI connection. Traffic volume increased 30 (thirty) times... Eric.
