NRO Observations on WCIT-12 Process
________________________________________________________________________ NRO Observations on WCIT-12 Process ________________________________________________________________________ The Number Resource Organisation (NRO) issued a statement on the outcomes of the recent World Conference on International Telecommunications (WCIT) 12 process expressing its concern about aspects of the meetings, in particular, events from the last few days of the conference. Unfortunately, anticipated discussions were eclipsed by other debates, and did not satisfy initial expectations that: 1. WCIT would have no bearing on the internet, its governance or its content, and 2. The event would allow all voices to be heard. Importantly, the NRO also expressed concern that open multi-stakeholder conduct did not occur. The NRO strongly supports the WSIS 2005 principles on multi-stakeholder Internet governance, and will continue to participate in the ITU in expectation that the ITU's processes can evolve visibly and rapidly towards these accepted principles.
