I am sorry to inform you that Phil Jones finally lost his brave fight against cancer yesterday (Sunday) when he died peacefully at about 5a.m.

As many of you will know Phil contributed a great deal to the academic community over more than 20 years. Initially he worked here in the University of Bristol and this was followed by spells in the South West Regional Computer Centre in Bath, the JNT and, latterly, in UKERNA.

Details are not yet known, but his funeral may be in the first few days in January.
