PLEASE RESPOND TO ADDRESS/PHONE LISTED BELOW Cooperative Wildlife Research Laboratory Southern Illinois University at Carbondale Researcher II (100%) (GIS/Remote Sensing Applications Assistant) Duties and Responsibilities: Work as a team member with Laboratory staff, students, and collaborators assisting with research projects requiring computer applications including Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, computer graphics, databases, and spreadsheets. Perform laboratory and field assignments related to analyses of wildlife habitat including acquisition, digitization, processing, and/or interpretation of data sets. Assist with day-to- day operation of microcomputer-based GIS/remote sensing and general computing laboratories. Maintain and install computer hardware/software. Research and prepare purchase requisitions for new hardware/software as directed by supervisory staff. Obtain technical support from vendors, distributors, and manufacturers regarding operation of hardware and software. Implement procedures for application of GIS and remote sensing hardware/software in research and service projects. Provide technical support to Laboratory staff, graduate students, and research technicians. Supervise research assistants, temporary staff, and student workers as assigned by the Director. Required Qualifications: M.A./M.S. or B.A./B.S. and equivalent experience in wildlife biology, natural resource management, zoology, ecology, geography, or related field. A high level of proficiency and knowledge of IBM compatible microcomputer hardware and software (including MIPS, ERDAS, and/or ARC/INFO) is desired. Must be proficient with word processing, computer graphics, databases, and spreadsheets. Knowledge of GIS, remote sensing, digital image processing, and photogrammetry is required. Salary: $1,525/month plus benefits. Term of Appointment: Beginning April 15, 1994 with continuation on this project, or others with closely related assignments, contingent on performance and need based on availability of contracts/grants.
