I hope this query is a reasonable use of this list. I have been asked to come up with a summary of the use of high speed (which means more than E3 - 34Mbit/s in this context) in Europe. The query really means off campus,

Why are planning for the future focused on 34Mbit? It's slow, does not map into SDH (only as VC3, but the same VC3 would also hold a 45Mbps.) It has ben demostrated that it is possible to even build transatlantic 155Mbit circiuts (using native IP over SDH), so why not in Europe? --Peter
