CSNOG3 meeting: Brno, CZ 8-9 September 2020

Dear colleagues, A CSNOG Meeting is a community event where network operators, CDN operators, ISPs, domain registries and other interested parties get together. It is expected that the audience prefer to discuss technical issues and have a chance for talk to each other. We would encourage technical communities both from Czech Republic and Slovakia to join the meeting. The third CSNOG meeting is expected to take place from 8-9 September in Brno, Czech Republic. The CSNOG Programme Committee is looking for speakers for the plenary presentations, panels, workshops and tutorial sessions. The abstracts for plenary presentations, panels, workshops and tutorials should be submitted by 15th June 2020 to be considered as a part of programme. We welcome presentations on the following topics (not limited to): - Key Internet technologies: IP protocols, routing, BGP and DNS - Data centre technologies - Internet governance and regulatory practices - Domain names industry - Data protection (including personal data) - Security issues: DDoS, routing security, DNSSEC - Content delivery networks - Internet peering - Fiber optics If you would like to suggest the presentation, please submit the abstract via the following link: https://indico.csnog.eu/event/7/abstracts/ Please submit your proposal in English, Czech or Slovak language. Presentations can be given in either language as we use simultaneous translation. Please note that marketing or commercial content will not be accepted. A CSNOG participation fee will be waived for presenters. RIPE 79 thank you!

Dear colleagues, RIPE 80 ended last Thursday with 2002 attendees registered and an average of 1300 viewers per day. Thank you all for making the first virtual RIPE meeting a success! RIPE 80 was my first meeting as RIPE NCC's Managing Director, and I would like to thank all of you for your support and kind words. It was also my last meeting as RIPE Chair as I'll hand over the reins to the new Chair and Vice-Chair who will be selected by the NomCom in the coming weeks. During the RIPE Community Plenary, we discussed progress regarding the Code of Conduct and the Working Group Chair selection process. We issued calls to form new Task Forces to tackle both of these issues. I will share updates on these topics on the ripe-list. There were changes in the community with Constanze Dietrich replacing Jim Reid as the IoT Working Group Co-chair. Peter Hessler and Wolfgang Tremmel were elected to the RIPE Programme Committee. Thank you, Jim, for the excellent job and congrats to Constanze, Peter and Wolfgang. We were also happy to see that we could bring the RIPE Meeting spirit online thanks to a high-quality programme, creative social events, fun quizzes and the general enthusiasm and goodwill of the community. RIPE80, RIPE81

RIPE80 was a success. Just look at the numbers. So well done everybody! Amazing job. So what next? As has been said, and indeed it is obvious, it is too early to make decisions about RIPE81 or even Milan. But I think we can be fairly relaxed about going virtual again for RIPE81 if we have to do so. But then what? Apparently there were once four RIPE meetings in the same year! But for a number of years we had three meetings each year, most of them in Amsterdam. Then we moved to two meetings, with many being away from Amsterdam. And of course in parallel the ease and scale of on-line participations has improved. It is interesting though to look at the on-site participation. It has varied markedly not only in terms of overall numbers but also in the mix. There is a fair amount of churn in there. And I am now also sensitive to the idea that low density travel will mean more expensive travel. I am of course looking forward to our next on-site meeting. Like many other people? But I would expect virtual meetings to now be part of the normal mix. At least one every other year? If not more? Gordon

RIPE 80 Highlights - Day 1

Dear Colleagues, The first day of RIPE 80, our first ever virtual RIPE Meeting, kicked off with 1,745 attendees and over a thousand more registered by day’s end. Here are the highlights. The meeting was opened by Hans Petter Holen, in his capacity as interim RIPE Chair, who welcomed attendees, thanking them for taking the time to come and try out a new kind of RIPE Meeting. Presentations throughout the plenary sessions were well attended with over 1,000 participating on Zoom and more joining in via the RIPE 80 livestream. In the final session, Hans Petter took to the virtual podium again to introduce himself as the new RIPE NCC Managing Director. After a short presentation of the RIPE NCC’s strategies, Hans Petter took questions and received numerous congratulations on his new position. Reminder: RIPE PC Elections @ RIPE80

Dear Friends and Colleagues, A reminder mail as the deadline for nominations/self-nominations/volunteers is tomorrow, Tuesday 12th May at 15:30 CEST. The RIPE Programme Committee is responsible for recruiting and selecting presentations for the RIPE Meeting Plenary sessions. As the term of two RIPE PC members end, we are looking for new members in Spring 2020 who will be elected by the RIPE community at RIPE 80. There are currently two seats up for election to the RIPE PC. Please send nominations, with a biography, statement of interest and photograph, to pc(a)ripe.net. The Charter of the RIPE Programme Committee ( https://www.ripe.net/ripe/docs/ripe-pc-charter) provides more information about the composition and roles of the RIPE PC. Nominations for the RIPE 80 PC elections can be sent in from today until Tuesday May 12th, 15:30 CEST. We will announce the PC elections at the RIPE meeting opening sessions, but interested parties can nominate themselves from now. We will close candidate nominations on Tuesday at 15:30 CEST (UTC+2), and publish the biographies on the RIPE Meeting web site. The RIPE PC online voting system will be open from Tuesday May 12th, 16:00 CEST until Thursday May 14th, 17:00 CEST, for the community members to cast their votes. The total voting numbers may be public.
