Seven years ago, we took our commitment a step further by introducing the Community Projects Fund. This initiative was designed to tackle the funding challenges faced by many noteworthy projects in our community. NRO NC Nominations 2023: Call to Fill Two Seats

Dear colleagues, This is a call for nominations to fill two seats on the Number Resource Organization Number Council (NRO NC). A single list of nominees will be used to fill both seats. We encourage those interested to familiarise themselves with the work of the NRO NC, and to reach out to current or former NRO NC members to understand the workload and responsibilities involved. To read more about the NRO NC and the election process, please see: https://www.ripe.net/nro-nc-nov-2023 ---------------------------- About the NRO NC ---------------------------- The NRO NC performs the role of the Address Supporting Organization Address Council (ASO AC), including: - Overseeing the Global Policy Development Process. - Providing recommendations to the ICANN Board concerning the recognition of new RIRs. - Nominating individuals to serve in the ASO’s two seats (Seat 9 and Seat 10) on the ICANN Board of Directors and other ICANN bodies. - Advising the ICANN Board on Internet number resource allocation policy, in conjunction with the RIRs. - Developing procedures for conducting business in support of their responsibilities, in particular, for the appointment of an ASO AC Chair and definition of the Chair’s responsibilities. The selected candidate will then be removed from the list of nominees, and the remaining nominees will be eligible for election for the second seat. This post is currently filled by Hervé Clément whose term expires on 31 December 2023. I would like to thank Hervé for his time spent both as representative for the RIPE community and as chair of the NRO NC. ---------------------------- Seat 2: Election ---------------------------- The second seat will be filled by an election held during RIPE 87 from the remaining pool of eligible nominees. The election is to fill the seat for the remainder of the three-year term started by James Kennedy in January 2023 and ending on 31 December 2025. The candidate elected will therefore serve on the NRO NC for two years of the three-year term. James is stepping down from his position on the NRO NC to take on his new role as the RIPE NCC's Chief Registry Officer. I would like to thank James for having represented the RIPE community on the NRO NC/ASO AC from 2022-2023, and also welcome him back to the RIPE NCC. Updated NRO NC Election Process (v2) and Preparation for NRO NC Elections at RIPE 87

Candidate eligibility criteria for NRO NC Elections at RIPE 87 1. Updated NRO NC Election Document v2 Earlier this year, we published a revised version of the election process for the Number Resource Organization (NRO) Numbering Council (NC) [1] and received a number of useful suggestions and comments. In this new version [2], we made some changes based on the comments received: - We removed the general description of the NRO and the tasks of the NC members and published this information separately on the website [3]. - We strengthened the candidate eligibility criteria. - We strengthened the voter eligibility criteria. - We moved the section about the IANA Numbering Services Review Committee to the end of the document. - We added References, Provenance and Document History as appendices. If you have any more comments, questions, suggestions, please send them to this list or to me directly before 25 September 2023, 9:00 UTC. Statements of agreement are of course also welcome. 2. Candidate eligibility criteria for NRO NC Elections at RIPE 87 In his mail from 16 August 2023, Hans Petter Holen announced that James Kennedy will start as Chief Registry Officer at the RIPE NCC [4]. James will step down from his position as a member of the NRO NC. This means James' seat will become available and we will organise elections at RIPE 87 in November. The RIPE NCC will issue a call for nominees in the next few days. I propose that we already implement the improved candidate eligibility criteria as described in the Draft NRO NC Election document since this was strongly suggested by the community after the last NRO NC elections and there were no comments on this part of the draft document. Within this scope, the program looks at trends, issues, improvement opportunities, ideas, best practices, and subsequent direction of work related to Internet technology, architecture, and operations, including visibility and efficiency on energy and other environmentally-impacting attributes. In particular, the group focuses on Internet architecture's role in these topics. The program targets topics not yet progressed into concrete standards or research efforts in the IETF or IRTF while also being a coordination point for work across multiple WGs/RGs, and a venue to highlight ongoing work in the IETF/IRTF as well as external SDOs. The program will use the existing E-Impact mailing list [2] as the venue for discussions. The program's progress and the quality of discussion may point to the need to organize additional workshop(s) to continue the 2022 IAB workshop on the Environmental Impact of Internet Applications and Systems [1]. The program may work on documents that analyze areas where Internet technology faces challenges related to the program's topics or provide architectural guidance. Potential examples of such documents include ones that describe sustainable network architectures, and those that document tradeoffs between environmental impacts and other characteristics such as performance and availability. Publishing any document as an RFC will be at the discretion of the IAB. The program intends to have regular virtual meetings along with periodic hybrid meetings that are co-located with in-person IETF meetings. The program is open to all interested participants, and its meetings will be publicly announced. James Kennedy Appointed as Chief Registry Officer

Dear colleagues, After an extensive search, I am pleased to announce the appointment of James Kennedy as the RIPE NCC’s new Chief Registry Officer. James will begin his new role in September. James has been in our industry for over 15 years and many of you will know him from his extensive involvement in the RIPE community. He was previously co-chair of the RIPE Database Requirements Task Force and is currently serving on the NRO Number Council and as co-chair of the Address Policy Working Group. He has also worked as an IP Resource Analyst with the RIPE NCC in the past. His experience and skills will make for a great addition to our leadership team. James and I have agreed that he will step down from his roles in the Address Policy Working Group and the NRO Number Council before starting at the RIPE NCC, and he will be sure to complete a proper handover with his successors. I also want to thank Felipe Victolla Silveira for his dedication and hard work in leading our registry operations over the past five years. Among other things, he is responsible for significantly improving our internal processes and the service levels we provide to members, and he played a crucial role in our response to a number of critical issues over this period, including sanctions and the war in Ukraine.
