Dear colleagues, Tomorrow, 18 October, an election will take place to fill one seat for the RIPE NCC service region on the Number Resource Organization Number Council (NRO NC). The winning candidate will begin a three-year term on the NRO NC from 1 January 2014. Voting is open to anyone in attendance at the RIPE 67 Meeting in Athens and it will take place from 08:45 – 10:45 on Friday morning. There will be a voting station at the Meet and Greet desk, just outside Ballroom II + III. All attendees will be offered a voting slip and should give their completed voting slip to the election officer at the voting station. The three candidates standing for election are: - Alain Bidron - Sander Steffann - Filiz Yilmaz The candidates’ biographies are available at: http://www.ripe.net/internet-coordination/internet-governance/internet-tech… Candidates will also make a brief statement in support of their candidacy at the NRO/RIR Reports session, which take place on Friday from 09:00 – 10:30 (UTC +3). Montevideo Statement on the Future of Internet Cooperation, Uruguay, 7 October 2013

Dear colleagues, The leaders of organizations responsible for coordination of the Internet technical infrastructure globally have met in Montevideo, Uruguay, to consider current issues affecting the future of the Internet. The Internet and World Wide Web have brought major benefits in social and economic development worldwide. Both have been built and governed in the public interest through unique mechanisms for global multi-stakeholder Internet cooperation, which have been intrinsic to their success. The leaders discussed the clear need to continually strengthen and evolve these mechanisms, in truly substantial ways, to be able to address emerging issues faced by stakeholders in the Internet. In this sense: - They reinforced the importance of globally coherent Internet operations, and warned against Internet fragmentation at a national level. They expressed strong concern over the undermining of the trust and confidence of Internet users globally due to recent revelations of pervasive monitoring and surveillance. - They identified the need for ongoing effort to address Internet Governance challenges, and agreed to catalyze community-wide efforts towards the evolution of global multi-stakeholder Internet cooperation. - They called for accelerating the globalization of ICANN and IANA functions, towards an environment in which all stakeholders, including all governments, participate on an equal footing. - They also called for the transition to IPv6 to remain a top priority globally. In particular Internet content providers must serve content with both IPv4 and IPv6 services, in order to be fully reachable on the global Internet. Adiel A. Lightning Talks at RIPE 67

Dear Colleagues, As there are just days left to meet in Athens at RIPE 67, please be reminded that RIPE PC is still accepting proposals for Lightning Talk slots, as part of the Plenary program. Lightning talks are short (5-10 minutes) presentations covering any topic and may or may not include slides. The presenter can choose how much of this time to spend on their presentation versus Q&A. Lightning talk proposals can be made in advance of a RIPE Meeting or during the days the meeting takes place. The PC decides which lightning talks to allow on short notice – in some cases on the same day the lightning talk is proposed. As majority of the lightning talk slots will be scheduled on Monday and Tuesday of the meeting next week, we encourage you to submit your proposals within this week.
