Successful launch of the redesigned RIPE NCC website

Dear colleagues, We’re pleased to announce that the redesigned RIPE NCC website has successfully launched and that all related applications and websites have also switched over to the new template, including RIPE Labs, the LIR Portal, RIPE Atlas and RIPEstat. The redesign was based on feedback from our members and the community, and focused on restructuring the content and making it easier to navigate, improving the search function, and creating a fresh, new look for the site. Planned Maintenance for Redesigned Website Launch

Dear colleagues, We have been hard at work getting our redesigned website ready for the launch next week, and are now in the final stages of the project. We've published a series of articles about the project and the latest one, which focuses on the new visual design, is now available on RIPE Labs: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/adam_castle/redesigning-the-ripe-ncc-website-… In order to make the switch to the new site, we have scheduled maintenance on Monday, 13 April from 5:30 - 7:30 UTC to work on the server infrastructure behind www.ripe.net. We don’t expect this work to impact visitors to the site, but there may be occasional disruptions during this time. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Beginning Monday, we hope you will take the opportunity to visit the new site and explore some of the new features. Once we have successfully switched over all applications and related websites to the new template, we will send another announcement. Phase 1 of Deprecation of "changed:" Attribute Deployed to RIPE Database Release Candidate Environment

Dear colleagues, The RIPE Database Working Group has asked the RIPE NCC to replace the “changed:” attribute in the RIPE Database with “created:” and “last-modified:”. We want to inform the wider community, in case you have any feedback you would like to share with the Database WG. Following discussions at RIPE 69, we met with the WG chairs and finalised an implementation plan consisting of three phases: 1) Introduce the new attributes “created:” and “last-modified:” 2) Make the "changed:" attribute optional 3) Deprecate the "changed:" attribute Details of this implementation plan can be found here: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/tim/deprecating-the-changed-attribute-in-the-… <https://labs.ripe.net/Members/tim/deprecating-the-changed-attribute-in-the-…> We recently informed the Database WG that Phase 1 of this implementation had been deployed to the Release Candidate environment. Editorial update to Policy Development Process in RIPE published as ripe-642

Dear colleagues, When ripe-614, "Policy Development Process in RIPE" was published last year, it contained an out-of-date reference. The last sentence in Section 2 currently says: "This process is documented in Appendix C, RIPE Policy Development Dispute Resolution." This appendix was replaced by Section 3, "Appealable Actions". This sentence has been removed and the updated RIPE Document, ripe-642 is now published. Proposals Open for Discussion: 2014-03, "Remove Multihoming Requirement for AS Number Assignments" – discussion open until 19 May 2015 Proposals at Last Call: 2014-05, "Policy for Inter-RIR Transfers of Internet Resources" - opinion can be stated until 3 April 2015 Proposals awaiting decision from proposer: 2015-01, "Alignment of Transfer Requirements for IPv4 Allocations" Proposals accepted: 2014-04, "Removing IPv6 Requirement for Receiving Space from the Final /8" 2014-06, "Publication of Sponsoring LIR for Legacy Internet Resource Holders" 2014-12, "Allow IPv6 Transfers" 2014-13, "Allow AS Number Transfers" Proposal Overviews: PROPOSAL: 2014-03, "Remove Multihoming Requirement for AS Number Assignments" OVERVIEW: This proposal aims to ease the requirements when requesting an Autonomous System (AS) Number. It is proposed to remove the need evaluation, limit the amount of AS Numbers per organization to 1,000 and require that 16-bit AS Numbers are multihomed after nine months. RIPE NCC IMPACT ANALYSIS: Includes point that it will be the End User that decides if the need for an AS Number is technically reasonable. Rough consensus has been declared and the purpose of this phase is to give the community a final opportunity to present well-justified objections in case anyone wants to oppose the proposal. PROPOSAL: 2014-05, "Policy for Inter-RIR Transfers of Internet Resources" OVERVIEW: This proposal aims to allow the global transfer of Internet resources. For transfers to the RIPE NCC service region from RIRs that require needs-based policies, recipients must provide the RIPE NCC with a plan for the use of at least 50% of the transferred resources within five years. STATUS: Last Call WHERE TO COMMENT: The Address Policy Working Group – address-policy-wg(a)ripe.net DEADLINE: 3 April FULL PROPOSAL: http://www.ripe.net/ripe/policies/proposals/2014-05 ===== The following proposal is awaiting decision from proposer on how to proceed. PROPOSAL: 2015-01, "Alignment of Transfer Requirements for IPv4 Allocations" OVERVIEW: Currently IPv4 allocations received from another LIR only can be re-allocated after 24 months, while IPv4 allocations made by the RIPE NCC can be transferred immediately. This proposal aims to align the transfer requirements with a 24 month holding period for all IPv4 allocations. STATUS: Discussion Phase - Awaiting Decision from Proposer FULL PROPOSAL: http://www.ripe.net/ripe/policies/proposals/2015-01 ===== The following proposals have been accepted since the last RIPE Policy Proposal Update. The RIPE NCC has started the implementation of these policy changes. The RIPE NCC will follow the policy change once the implementation is complete and the new procedures are in place. PROPOSAL: 2014-04, "Removing IPv6 Requirement for Receiving Space from the Final /8" OVERVIEW: Previously, in order to receive a final /22 IPv4 allocation from the RIPE NCC, Local Internet Registries (LIRs) must have an IPv6 allocation in the RIPE NCC service region. This proposal removed this requirement. STATUS: Accepted EXPECTED IMPLEMENTATION: Implemented on 18 March 2015 FULL PROPOSAL: http://www.ripe.net/ripe/policies/proposals/2014-04 PROPOSAL: 2014-06, "Publication of Sponsoring LIR for Legacy Internet Resource Holders" OVERVIEW: This proposal requested the RIPE NCC to publish the link between legacy holders and their sponsoring Local Internet Registry (LIR). Survey on Trust in RIRs

Hi As part of my research on Trust in Internet governance, I would hugely appreciate up to 15 minutes of your time, that you will never get back, to complete a short survey on Trust in RIRs. The survey was launched today March 20 and it ends on March 30, 2015. This is *not* an RIR-initiated survey. The survey is part of University of Malta's Program in Internet governance, designed to conduct research into the trust that members have in the RIR's work and overall governance processes. The RIR and their members have done a huge amount of good work during the past year on the IANA Stewardship Transition Process. This work is very important and will be ongoing. A number of issues will arise; two of them being Governance and Trust. This study examines existing views as a contribution to the overall work.
