Dear All, below is the hostcount for June 1998. The table shows an increase since last month of over 140,000 (or 2.2%) to a total of almost 6,800,000 hosts in the DNS in Europe and surrounding areas. The de domain shows the highest increase for June with approximately 30,000 hosts more than in May. - Other Ways to Obtain the Hostcount - The hostcount can also be found under ftp://ftp.ripe.net/ripe/hostcount. RIPE 31 Meeting

Dear Colleagues, [ Apologies for duplicate mails ] It is our pleasure to announce the 31st RIPE meeting, which will take place at the University of Edinburgh in Edinburgh, Scotland and is hosted by the London Internet Exchange (LINX). The meeting will take place on the following days: Wednesday 23rd, Thursday 24th and Friday 25th September 1998. Please note that there appears to be a shortage of availabe hotels in Edinburgh in September. We would like to advise you to start looking for accommodation as soon as possible. For those of you who wish to attend the RIPE meeting and need a visa we also like would advise that you begin these procedures as soon as possible. ISOC Summit on 'New IANA'

Dear Colleagues, yesterday ISOC announced the "Internet Society Summit for discussing the structure of 'New IANA' ". This summit is open for all interested parties and will be held after the forthcoming INET'98 Conference in Geneva, Switzerland. The dates of the Summit are July 24-25. This meeting will discuss structure for the 'New IANA' in the light of (amongst others) the Green and White Papers which were recently released by the US Federal Government. It is expected that all key players, including the current IANA, will be present at this meeting. RIPE, RIPE NCC and RIPE CENTR will all three be present at this meeting, of course. As most of you know, we have been discussing these issues for the past two years at our RIPE meetings at length. The consensus reached at these meetings will be our platform for the discussions at the Summit Meeting.
