RIPE Accountability Task Force: BoF at RIPE 76

Dear colleagues, The RIPE Accountability Task Force has been examining the structures, processes and documentation of RIPE to ensure that we: - Are accountable to ourselves as a community - Can explain this to newcomers - Can demonstrate this to outside observers At RIPE 76, we will give a brief update on the status of our work during the Monday afternoon plenary. Following the plenary, there will also be an accountability BoF on Monday evening in the side room. There, we will lead a guided discussion to collect feedback on some of the points the task force has been looking at: 1. RIPE community values 2. Consensus in RIPE 3. The role of Chairs 4. Capture 5. Preserving community norms over time (as people retire and demographics change) We invite you to attend the BoF and give us your input. We will use this as we work to publish our draft report to the community after the summer period. It's worth reiterating that the task force has no intention of becoming a working group or any other kind of permanent structure within RIPE. RIPE 76 Programme Committee Nominations

Dear Friends and Colleagues, The RIPE Programme Committee is responsible for recruiting and selecting presentations for the RIPE Meeting Plenary sessions. As the term of two RIPE PC members end, we are looking for new members in Spring 2018 who will be elected by the RIPE community at RIPE 76 in Marseille. There are currently two seats up for election to the RIPE PC. Please send nominations, with a biography, statement of interest and photograph, to pc(a)ripe.net. The Charter of the RIPE Programme Committee (https://www.ripe.net/ripe/docs/ripe-pc-charter) provides more information about the composition and roles of the RIPE PC. Nominations for the RIPE 76 PC elections can be sent in from today until Tuesday May 15th, 15:30 CEST. We will announce the PC elections at the RIPE meeting opening sessions, but interested parties can nominate themselves from now. We will close candidate nominations on Tuesday at 15:30 CEST (UTC+2), and publish the biographies on the RIPE Meeting web site. Candidates (or their stand-ins) can present themselves at the start of the Tuesday 16:00 CEST session. The RIPE PC online voting system will be open from Tuesday May 15th, 16:00 CEST until Thursday May 17th, 17:30 CEST, for the community members to cast their votes. The total voting numbers may be public. The official announcement of the elected RIPE PC members will be on Friday morning, the 18th May, at the start of the 11:00 CEST closing plenary session. RIPE 76: Call for Late Submissions and Lightning Talks

Dear colleagues, Summary: The RIPE PC invites late submissions (30 min) and Lightning Talks (10 min) for RIPE 76 Plenary. Similar to RIPE 74, and distinct from other previous RIPE Meetings, the RIPE Programme Committee decided to keep one plenary slot open for a so-called "late submission". This plenary slot gives the community the opportunity to submit presentations that report on recent developments, issues, security incidents, etc., that are relevant to the RIPE audience. Also please consider submitting a Lightning Talk for the Monday plenary. During the meeting week, we will accept Lightning Talk submissions for Tuesday and Friday. 2018-04 New Proposal (PDP Clarification)

Dear colleagues, A new RIPE proposal, 2018-04, "PDP Clarification" is now available for discussion. This proposal aims to clarify the options available to the WG chairs at the end of the Review Phase of the RIPE Policy Development Process (PDP). Please note that since changes to the PDP can affect all RIPE Working Groups, the RIPE Chair decided to discuss this proposal on the RIPE Discussion mailing list. The RIPE Chair will also moderate the proposal discussion. You can find the complete proposal at: https://www.ripe.net/participate/policies/proposals/2018-04 As per the RIPE Policy Development Process (PDP), the purpose of this four week Discussion Phase is to discuss the proposal and provide feedback to the proposer. At the end of the Discussion Phase, the proposer, with the agreement of the RIPE Chair, will decide how to proceed with the proposal. ASO Community Consultation

Dear colleagues, The five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) are asking their communities for guidance on how they should participate within ICANN in the future. In 2017, an independent review of the Address Supporting Organization (ASO) was completed. The review found that the ASO is one of the better-organised and more efficient parts of the ICANN system, is transparent and accountable, and is viewed by many as a critical part of the ICANN structure. You can read the full review here: https://www.nro.net/wp-content/uploads/ASO-Review-Report-2017.pdf The final recommendation of the review was that the NRO should initiate a public consultation with the five RIR communities to decide on the future structure of the ASO. The IANA Numbering Services Review Committee (IANA RC) has published the 2017 IANA Numbering Services Review Committee Report following a 30-day public comment period: https://www.nro.net/wp-content/uploads/2017-IANA-Numbering-Services-Review-… The IANA RC was formed in 2016 and is responsible for publishing an annual report as advice to the NRO EC with its evaluation of the IANA numbering services. Introducing SPF records

Dear RIPE community, At 07:00 UTC on Tuesday 24 April we will introduce, in the ripe.net DNS zone, a Sender Policy Framework (SPF) record with a soft fail qualifier that will allow remote mail servers to validate that the emails we send come from our domain. We are making this change because, recently, a significant number of Gmail or G Suite users have experienced issues when emails have been sent from our email servers. In certain cases, some of the emails were rejected or marked as spam. The only potential negative consequence of this change is that there will be an increased likelihood that forwarded emails will be tagged as spam by various email service providers. If you do not forward emails received from ripe.net email addresses, this change will not affect you at all. We're sorry if you were affected by the recent issues.
