Dear RIPE community: I am writing this email to ask for anyones help in contacting a school in Germany called the Gymnasium Querfurt High School. I have made the attempt myself by phone and email without much success. The problem with phoning is the language barrier - I don't speak German and they don't speak English. The emails I have sent I think are being intercepted. To give you some backgrounder on this a person by the name of Christopher Mettin who claims to be a representative and the network administrator at the school joined the ARIN PPML mailing list and was trying to get free number resources for his school. I posted a "FRAUD ALERT" to the conference http://bit.ly/87Yjir and thats when everything went a little kooky. Mr. Mettin went ballistic and made all sorts of false accusations against me resulting in the violation of the ARIN AUP and calls from the members to have him removed. He also claims RIPE refuses to give his school any number resources and called RIPE a NAZI organization. He also claims that the province in Germany where the school is located is not a part of Germany but is in fact the 51st state of the United States. Those of you who wish to review the discussions should visit the ARIN PPML mailing list archives and follow the threads in late November recently past. Many ARIN member found the discussion humorous so your sure to have a giggle or two if you read up on this. Now Christopher is in fact a student at the school. I do not know if he has permission to represent the school. If he does have permission then my next question is "WHY is he not being properly supervised in his work by a school official" i.e. a responsible adult. The Gymnasium Querfurt is one of the top high schools in Germany. If the school was doing its job and properly supervising him I don't think Chris would of ever ended up involving himself and his school in a scandal. So if anyone here can pick up the phone - call the school - and ask them what is going on it would be much appreciated. I think at the very least the school should apologize to the list membership. ASO AC Call for Nominations for Seat 10 on ICANN Board

[Apologies for duplicate emails] Dear Colleagues, In line with the ASO Memorandum of Understanding and ICANN Bylaws, the Address Supporting Organization Address Council (ASO AC) calls for nominations for Seat Number 10 on the ICANN Board. The nomination period will close at 23:59 UTC on 10 January 2010. All candidates must sign a Letter of Certification detailing previous conduct and character. We will send this letter to each applicant along with instructions on what to do next. We are unable to consider candidates who fail to follow these instructions. If the ASO AC decides to conduct face-to-face interviews, candidates may need to travel (once) during March 2010. We expect all candidates to complete one or more questionnaires. Failure to do this by the advised deadlines may rule them out of the selection process. RIPE Labs update

Dear Colleagues, Since the launch of RIPE Labs at RIPE 59 in Lisbon earlier this month, a lot of new and interesting content has appeared on the RIPE Labs site. With articles covering a wide range of subjects, there is probably something interesting for everyone! - Some of you might have seen the tool to measure lameness in DNS Shane Kerr presented at the RIPE Meeting. He has kindly published the tool here: http://labs.ripe.net/node/75 - Tom Vest has written an article comparing the work of the 2009 Nobel Prize winners with the IP address allocation structure, “The Challenge of IP Addressing and the 2009 Nobel Prize”: http://labs.ripe.net/node/81 - APNIC has been an active participant in the "Day In the Life" data collection activities organised by OARC and CAIDA. George Michaelson presented the results at RIPE 59, and has now also published them on RIPE Labs: http://labs.ripe.net/node/78 - The Resource Explainer (REX) was launched at RIPE 59 as part of RIPE Labs. As a follow-up, Emile Aben, of the RIPE NCC Science Group, has looked into how REX can help to find data on the correlation between specific netblocks and spam activity: http://labs.ripe.net/node/85 - Last but not least, Rene Wilhelm has looked at the question of when a particular address block can be considered to have been routed globally: http://labs.ripe.net/node/47 There is more to come, so stay tuned! Dave Wilson Elected to RIPE seat on NRO NC

Start of the ENUM WG session at RIPE 59 on Friday

Dear RIPE 59 attendees, due to the fact that the ENUM WG has a rather short agenda this time the two ENUM WG Co-Chairs, Niall O'Reilly and me, came to the conclusion that 60 minutes should be enough to cover all agenda items. [Apologies for duplicate emails] Dear Colleagues, The nomination period for appointment to the Number Resource Organization (NRO) Number Council (NC) has now closed. This year, in accordance with the Number Resource Organization's Memorandum of Understanding (NRO MoU), the RIPE community will elect one individual to fill the seat that is being vacated by Dave Wilson, who was elected to a three-year term on the NRO NC that began on 1 January 2007.
