Join a RIPE 87 local hub in a city near you!

Dear colleagues, For RIPE 87, taking place from 27 November to 1 December in Rome, we are making it possible to join via Local Hubs, in different countries where you can meet in person with local community members on a small scale: https://ripe87.ripe.net/attend/call-for-local-hubs/local-hubs/ These hubs will be located in Amsterdam, Bruges, Glasgow, Kyiv, Sanaa and Tallinn! Through this initiative, we can increase diversity and inclusion by allowing more people to participate. For instance, those who could not get a visa, have to take care of (grand) children or old parents, or can not afford to travel. At the same time, instead of watching remotely on your own, you can meet the locals and have a mini-RIPE Meeting cosy feeling. :) Please share the invitations with your local communities, and I'll see you remotely/locally at RIPE 87! RIPE Programme Committee Elections @ RIPE87

Colleagues, RIPE 87 starts soon and there will be an opportunity to join the Programme Committee for the meetings. The RIPE Programme Committee is responsible for recruiting and selecting presentations for the RIPE Meeting Plenary sessions. There are currently two seats up for election to the RIPE PC. Please send nominations, with a biography, statement of interest and photograph, to pc(a)ripe.net The RIPE Meeting Programme Committee: Appointment, Roles and Responsibilities document - https://www.ripe.net/publications/docs/ripe-763 - provides more information about the composition and roles of the RIPE PC. Nominations for the RIPE 87 PC elections can be sent in from today, Tuesday, 21 November, until Tuesday, 28 November, 15:30 CET (UTC+1). Please include a recent picture and short biography with your nomination. We will announce the PC elections at the RIPE meeting opening sessions, but interested parties can already nominate themselves. If you are nominating someone else, please ensure that the person concerned is willing to be nominated and is copied on emails sent to the PC. The PC will attempt to confirm that nomination with the nominee before proceeding. We will close candidate nominations on Tuesday, 28 November at 15:30 CET (UTC+1) and publish the biographies on the RIPE Meeting web site. The RIPE PC online voting system will be open from Tuesday, 28 November, 16:00 CET (UTC+1) until Thursday, 30 November, 17:00 CET (UTC+1), for community members to cast their votes. The total voting numbers may be public. The official announcement of the elected RIPE PC members will be on the morning of Friday, 1 December, during the Closing Plenary session. Community consensus on NRO NC Election Process

There were no further concerns or suggestions. RIPE NCC Internet Country Report: Türkiye

Dear colleagues, I’m pleased to announce the publication of our latest country report, this time focusing on the Internet landscape in Türkiye: https://labs.ripe.net/author/suzanne_taylor_muzzin/ripe-ncc-internet-countr… The report examines the country’s major market players and level of competition, Internet number resource holdings, IPv4 transfers and IPv6 readiness to understand Türkiye’s unique challenges and opportunities for future growth. We also analyse Internet resilience and stability by mapping the relationship between different networks in the country and their connectivity to the global Internet, access to root name servers, traffic paths and routing security. We hope you’ll find the report interesting - please share it widely with anyone you think might be interested. We’d be very interested to hear any questions or feedback you have. Extended Last Call for Draft: NRO NC Election Process (v4)

Dear colleagues, Since version 3 of the Number Resource Organization Number Council (NRO NC) Election Document was published [1], we received a suggestion to add another criterion to the candidate eligibility: "having attended at least three previous RIPE meetings". This was supported by others on the list. The new version (under section 3. Candidate Eligibility) now reads: "Any individual residing within the RIPE NCC service region, who has participated in at least three RIPE Meetings, is eligible for nomination, except Regional Internet Registry (RIR) staff members. Self-nominations are permitted." This is therefore another LAST CALL for comments for this final version of the document [2], to expire on Monday, 20 November at 06:00 UTC. Please note that in the meantime, the call for nominations for the NRO NC has ended. Hence, the above change to the candidate eligibility criteria will only apply for future elections. Community consensus on RIPE NCC staff participation in RIPE

Dear Colleagues, I am glad to declare RIPE community consensus on draft v2 [[1][]] of the document on RIPE NCC staff participation in RIPE. I expect that the text of this draft will be published as a RIPE document in the near future, after final editing to add acknowledgements, check spelling and terminology, and make whatever other minor changes may be needed to prepare it for release. I should like to add a few remarks. Last call on this draft was re-opened on 21 July 2023 [[2][]], and closed on 4 September 2023. During this second last-call period, there were a number of expressions of support, and none of objection, to the two principles enunciated in this draft. In addition, on 2 August 2023, Andy Davidson maintained [[3][]], > As a responsible community, it is incumbent upon us to safeguard NCC > staff from potential conflicts of interest by defining clear > protocols for how such situations are considered and managed when > NCC staff participate in RIPE activities with activity plans, > budgets, or hiring decisions. He also asked, > Can this be captured in the lovely > succinct way that you have approached the first two drafts? At the time, I replied that I hoped so. On reflection, I believe that the initiative for addressing Andy's concerns is best left to RIPE NCC management and staff. Pragmatically, they have well-established internal mechanisms which would likely not run more smoothly if the community were to try to orchestrate them. Diplomatically, the community should avoid telling NCC management and staff what is good for them. Moreover, I have been made aware that the RIPE NCC is planning to review its internal guidelines on staff interaction with the community, and needs to know the consensus of the community in order to inform that review. For all these reasons, I believe it is appropriate to declare consensus on this document now, rather than to attempt improving it further. Finally, I wish to thank everyone who has participated in discussing this draft and its predecessor. RIPE NCC Community Projects Fund Recipients 2023

Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC Community Projects Fund opened its call for applications in March 2023. The application period was open for just over 12 weeks, and 54 applications from 26 different countries were submitted to the Selection Committee. The RIPE NCC Community Projects Fund Selection Committee has reviewed the applications and is happy to announce that the following six projects have been selected as the 2023 recipients of the RIPE NCC Community Projects Fund.
