[Apologies for duplicate emails] Dear Colleagues, The RIPE 63 Meeting opened today. A short summary of Monday's events can be found below. The full Daily Meeting Report, including photos, links to presentations and further information, can be found at: http://ripe63.ripe.net/programme/report/ RIPE 63 Plenary The RIPE 63 Meeting began Monday afternoon with welcome addresses from Rob Blokzijl, RIPE Chair, and the RIPE Meeting hosts, Christian Panigl, UniVie/ACOnet/VIX, and Robert Schiscka, nic.at. Desiree Miloshevic, of the Oxford Internet Institute, then gave an introduction to the results of the recent RIPE NCC Membership and Stakeholder Survey The Plenary continued with a detailed presentation by Emile Aben, RIPE NCC, on “World IPv6 Day - What Did We Learn?”. The presentation showed statistics from the day itself and concluded that it was a positive experience. Brian Nisbet, HEAnet, with the first technical presentation of the week, had the attendees laughing out loud at his amusing account of HEAnet’s experience with “Cisco CRS-1 & IOS-XR”. The second Plenary session began with an emotive speech from Daniel Karrenberg, Chief Scientist RIPE NCC, entitled "Almost 20 Years of RIPE NCC: A Personal View on Current Challenges". It was followed by a high-level panel discussion on resource certification (RPKI). The discussion saw lengthy debate on the technical and potential regulatory issues surrounding certification. RPKI Workshop Earlier in the day, a RPKI workshop was held. Around 80 people participated in the event, during which they had the chance to make use all of the available open source tools and configure routers to base routing decisions on RPKI data. BoF: RIPEstat Demo The RIPEstat demo took place during Monday’s BoF session. The demo gave an overview of the purpose of RIPEstat, explained some features related to the application’s views, mentioned the new iPhone/iPad version that was released yesterday and outlined upcoming features. More information about RIPEstat and the demos can be found online at: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/kistel/ripestat Database Tricks and Tips Around 35 people attended the "Database Tricks and Tips" session, run by the RIPE NCC, on Monday morning. The session introduced attendees to the most important objects in the RIPE Database, showed simple ways to get precise information and explained the best methods for updating the database. There was also some discussion of geolocation. Abuse Contact Management Task Force The Abuse Contact Management Task Force held their fourth meeting on Monday morning. The goal of the task force is to propose a solution for abuse contact provision by members. The task force will report back to the Anti Abuse Working Group on Tuesday afternoon. The task force also came up with a policy proposal outline that will be submitted in the coming weeks.

Dear Colleagues During RIPE 63, one of the community selected seats on the RIPE Programme Committee (PC) will become available. We are looking for members of the community to volunteer themselves for this vacant seat. The election process --------------------- - During the Opening Plenary, the PC will give an overview of the composition of the PC and the rotation scheme. The nomination period will open. - Candidates wishing to stand for election to the PC should notify pc(a)ripe.net and send a brief biography to meeting(a)ripe.net by 09:00 local time on Friday. Biographies will be posted to http://ripe63.ripe.net/ - Elections will take place during the Closing Plenary on Friday. Only those present in the room will be able to vote. However, you can get an early-bird discount of EUR 50 if you register before 12:00 UTC on Friday, 28 October. You can register for RIPE 63 online at: http://ripe63.ripe.net/register Online registration closes on Friday, 28 October at 18:00 UTC. After this time, it will still be possible to register but you must do so on site at the meeting venue. ISP routing policies survey

Hi all, Some of you may have seen the recent discussion on the NANOG list, about how research on interdomain routing could really benefit from a better understanding of current routing policies. But we researchers need help from you, the operators, to better understand routing policies. So, we created a short survey. Over 70 ops have already taken our survey, and we need your help to collect responses. The survey should take under 5 minutes to complete. Feel free to answer all of our questions, or just a few: http://www.cs.toronto.edu/~phillipa/measurement/opsurvey/survey.php We'll keep the survey data anonymous, and use it to improve research on interdomain routing and security. [Apologies if you've already seen this announcement in other forums.] Request for participation - Arbor 2011 Worldwide Infrastructure Security Report. ----- Folks, We're in the process of collecting survey responses for the 2011 Worldwide Infrastructure Security Report (WWISR); this is the Seventh Edition of the Report, and we'd really be grateful for your participation! This is the only security-focused survey we're aware of which is specifically oriented towards those who design, build, operate, and defend public-facing network infrastructure/applications/services, and provides an opportunity to share your experiences and perspectives with your peers within the operational community, as well as to benefit from their shared experiences and perspectives. The 2011 Infrastructure Security Survey is up and available for your input. [Apologies for duplicates] Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC is in the process of updating its mailing list hardware and software. This will allow us to implement new features on the mailing lists, such as a complex search functionality throughout the archives. The new servers are currently undergoing testing and will be put into production today -- 13 October, 2011. You do not need to take any action and all subscriptions and settings will be copied over to the new system. However, we would like to inform you that, after implementation, the mailing list archives will have a slightly different look and you will need to update any direct links to messages in the archives. Resource Certification/RPKI Workshop at RIPE 63

RIPE 63 attendees interested in Resource Certification/RPKI are encouraged to take part in a workshop on Monday, 31 October from 9:30-12:30 in the Park Congress 2+3 rooms. ===================== What you'll learn ===================== The workshop will focus on BGP Origin Validation, based on the Resource Public Key Infrastructure (RPKI). You will learn how RPKI enables network operators to make more reliable routing decisions and how it protects against accidental mis-origination, the most common routing error we see today. Using various open-source tools from rpki.net and the RIPE NCC, you will be able to set up a resource certificate and create Route Origin Authorisation (ROA) objects, stating which Autonomous Systems are authorised to originate the prefixes you hold. After publishing your ROAs, you can validate them and configure routers to set routing preferences based on the RPKI status of your prefixes. This workshop will be a collaboration between Rob Austein, Randy Bush, Michael Elkins, Benno Overeinder (NLNet Labs), Jac Kloots (SURFnet), Cisco Systems, Juniper Networks and the RIPE NCC. ========================= Participation Details ========================= You do not need to register for this workshop. There are no prerequisites for using the rpki.net tools. In order to generate a certificate and configure ROAs on the RIPE NCC pilot server, you'll need to have an LIR Portal user account with access to the certification system or know the administrator credentials for your LIR Portal account.
