ISOC, the NRO and the RIRs Reinforce Importance of IPv6 Deployment for the Future of the Internet

6 June 2012 – Thousands of companies and millions of websites around the world are permanently deploying the next generation Internet Protocol, IPv6, ensuring the Internet remains open and accessible for the future. World IPv6 Launch, organized by the Internet Society, begins today and is supported by the Number Resource Organization (NRO) and the Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) who have long played a vital role in raising awareness about supporting the global deployment of IPv6. Many parts of the world are increasing broadband penetration, more smart phones and network-ready devices are entering the market, and the sheer number of Internet users is steadily increasing – all of which raises IP address consumption. 2012 Global IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey - Open Now Until 30 June

[Apologies for duplicate emails] Dear colleagues, The Number Resource Organization (NRO), on behalf of all the Regional Internet Registries, invites you to participate in the 3rd consecutive Global IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey on the current and future use of IPv6. The purpose of the survey is to better understand where the community is moving, and what can be done to ensure that the Internet community is ready and moving toward widespread adoption of IPv6. As it is mostly the same as the survey carried out globally in 2010 and 2011, comparison of progress will be possible. The IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey is now online, and we encourage all members of our community to participate: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/GlobalIPv6survey2012 The survey will be open for a month and will close on 30 June 2012. We anticipate a good response rate as 94% of last year's over 1600 respondents from around the globe indicated that they were interested in participating again. We encourage all organisations to participate in order for the results to establish a comprehensive view of present IPv6 penetration and future plans for IPv6 deployment. The survey is composed of 23 questions and can be completed in about 15 minutes. For those without IPv6 allocations or assignments, or who have not yet deployed IPv6, the questions will be fewer in number. Results of this year's survey will be presented and discussed widely. RIPE NCC Returns Legacy Address Space to IANA

Dear colleagues, On 6 May 2012, the ICANN Board ratified GPP-IPv4-2011, "Global Policy for Post Exhaustion IPv4 Allocation Mechanisms" by IANA. This global policy enables IANA to redistribute any recovered IPv4 address space equally amongst the RIRs. Following the ratification of this global policy, on 22 May 2012 the RIPE NCC returned to IANA the 1,368,576 legacy IPv4 addresses that have been returned to the RIPE NCC and plans to return any other legacy IPv4 address space that is returned to the organisation in the future. Kind regards, Filiz Yilmaz for the RIPE Programme Committee ------------------- Call for Papers: RIPE 65 A RIPE Meeting is an open event where Internet Service Providers, network operators and other interested parties get together. Although the meeting is mostly technical, it is also a chance for people to meet and network with others in their field. RIPE 65 will take place on 24-28 September 2012 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The RIPE Programme Committee (PC) is now seeking content proposals from the RIPE community for the Plenary, BoF and tutorial sessions at RIPE 65. The PC is looking for presentations covering topics of network engineering and operations, including but not limited to: - IPv6 deployment - Managing IPv4 scarcity in operations - Commercial transactions of IPv4 addresses - Data center technologies - Network and DNS operations - Internet governance and regulatory practices - Network and routing security - Content delivery - Internet peering and mobile data exchange Submissions Attendees of the RIPE meetings are quite sensitive to keeping presentations non-commercial, and product marketing talks are strongly discouraged. Repeated audience feedback shows that the most successful talks focus on operational experience, research results, or case studies. For example, presenters wishing to describe a commercial solution should focus on the underlying technology and not attempt a product demonstration. Presenters who are proposing a panel or BoF are encouraged to include speakers from several (perhaps even competing) companies and/or a neutral facilitator. In addition to presentations selected in advance for the Plenary, the RIPE PC also offers several time slots for “lightning talks” which are selected immediately before or during the conference. The following requirements apply: - Proposals for talks, BoFs and panels must be submitted for full consideration no later than 1 July 2012, using the meeting submission system at: https://meetings.ripe.net/pc/ Proposals submitted after this date will be considered on a space-available basis. - Presenters should indicate how much time they will require (30 minutes for talks is a common maximum duration, although some talks can be longer). - Proposals for talks will only be considered by the PC if they contain at least draft presentation slides (slides may be updated later on). For BoFs and panels proposals must contain a clear description as well as names of invited panelists/presenters. - Due to potential technical issues, it is expected that most if not all presenters/panelists will be physically present at the RIPE meeting. - Lightning talks should be submitted using the meeting submission system. They must be short (10 minutes maximum) and often involve more timely topics. They can be submitted at any time. The allocation of lightning talk slots will be announced one day prior to the relevant session. Joint NRO / ASO AC Response to ASO Review Report

Dear colleagues, In accordance with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Bylaws, the Number Resource Organization (NRO) undertakes independent periodic reviews of the Address Supporting Organization (ASO). ITEMS International, a consultancy engaged by the NRO to conduct this current review, delivered its report in early 2012. A public comment period closed on 6 April 2012. On 30 April 2012, the NRO submitted its considered response to the 26 recommendations of the report and the one recommendation received during the ICANN public comment period. Its response was formulated with the assistance of the ASO Address Council (ASO AC). The NRO extends its thanks to all of those who have participated in this process.
