Dear colleagues, Over the last few years, we worked on the recommendations by the RIPE NomCom 2020 [1]. One recommendation was still open: "to document community consensus on the relationship between RIPE and the RIPE NCC". We are excited to share a first draft document with you that describes this relationship as it has evolved from 1992 until the present time. Since Daniel Karrenberg has been involved in both the RIPE community and the RIPE NCC from the beginning, we asked Daniel to author such a document. Help Choose the next RIPE Chair

We are looking for volunteers to help on the NomCom that selects the next RIPE chair team. If you have checked in for three out of the most recent five RIPE meetings we want your help. Especially if you are relatively new to RIPE. If you do not volunteer, 10 of these people will get to make the decision: https://ripenomcom.org/volunteers/ . Call for Volunteers to Serve on the 2025 RIPE NomCom

Dear RIPE Participant, RIPE will choose its next chair and a vice chair by way of a nominating committee. Ten volunteers, randomly selected from the community, will make that choice with the help of the whole community. These ten people plus some non-voting liaisons and advisors will form the NomCom. The NomCom will start to work around January 2025 and make its selection soon after the next RIPE meeting in May of that year. The job of the NomCom is to select people who have what it takes and also have the support of the community. As chair of the 2025 NomCom, my job is to organise the work and help the volunteers with making their choice. Therefore I call on you to volunteer. Ideally, we are looking for about 100 volunteers representing a broad range of RIPE participants. Ten of those people will be randomly selected to serve on the NomCom. To qualify for serving as a voting volunteer you have to have attended three of the five most recent RIPE meetings including the meeting taking place next week in Prague. The ruling sets aside the appeal initiated by AFRINIC on 28 September 2023 and restores the judgement made by the learned Judge of the Commercial Division of the Supreme Court delivered on 12 September 2023. This ruling also restores the previous order appointing the Official Receiver and providing the Official Receiver with a two-month timeframe to organise the elections in accordance with AFRINIC’s constitution and complete the entire process from the date of this judgement. On Behalf of the Official Receiver ———— The NRO views the ruling, which prioritizes the importance of organizing elections, as a positive development. We look forward to the successful execution of elections which are fundamental to restoring AFRINIC’s governance and returning the organisation to full function. BCOP TF meeting in Prague on Monday...

Dear community, Usually I would not write here about the BCOP TF sessions at RIPE meetings, but this one is a little bit different... After the report from "Documenting the best operational practices of running networks during the war (Ukraine)" topic - we'll open a discussion about if we should start documenting what our community consensus process actually is. Currently, we use bits and pieces from the IETF and other organizations, but the problem is that this is not documented anywhere and every RIPE community member may have their own version in their mind. As the term of two RIPE PC members end, we are looking for new members in Autumn 2024 who will be elected by the RIPE community at RIPE 89. Revising the Criteria for the Accreditation of Regional Internet Registries

Dear colleagues, I would like to share an update on the ongoing work to revise the criteria for the accreditation of Regional Internet Registries. The NRO NC has published a document with proposed principles for the recognition of RIRs and ongoing requirements that RIRs should meet. You can read the details in my article published on RIPE Labs: https://labs.ripe.net/author/athina/revising-the-criteria-for-the-accredita… This is an important step in the RIRs' and their respective communities' efforts to prove that there are adequate checks and balances to ensure the stability and self-governance of the Internet Numbers Registry System. As part of the RIPE community, I encourage you to share your thoughts on the proposed principles via the designated questionnaire, which is open until 19 November 2024.
