Dear colleagues, The second day of the RIPE 80 ended with 1,956 attendees registered and 1,294 unique viewers (764 via Zoom / 530 via the webstream). RIPE 80 Highlights - Day 1

Dear Colleagues, The first day of RIPE 80, our first ever virtual RIPE Meeting, kicked off with 1,745 attendees and over a thousand more registered by day’s end. Here are the highlights. The meeting was opened by Hans Petter Holen, in his capacity as interim RIPE Chair, who welcomed attendees, thanking them for taking the time to come and try out a new kind of RIPE Meeting. Presentations throughout the plenary sessions were well attended with over 1,000 participating on Zoom and more joining in via the RIPE 80 livestream. In the final session, Hans Petter took to the virtual podium again to introduce himself as the new RIPE NCC Managing Director. After a short presentation of the RIPE NCC’s strategies, Hans Petter took questions and received numerous congratulations on his new position. Reminder: RIPE PC Elections @ RIPE80

Dear Friends and Colleagues, A reminder mail as the deadline for nominations/self-nominations/volunteers is tomorrow, Tuesday 12th May at 15:30 CEST. The RIPE Programme Committee is responsible for recruiting and selecting presentations for the RIPE Meeting Plenary sessions. As the term of two RIPE PC members end, we are looking for new members in Spring 2020 who will be elected by the RIPE community at RIPE 80. There are currently two seats up for election to the RIPE PC. Please send nominations, with a biography, statement of interest and photograph, to pc(a)ripe.net. The Charter of the RIPE Programme Committee ( https://www.ripe.net/ripe/docs/ripe-pc-charter) provides more information about the composition and roles of the RIPE PC. Nominations for the RIPE 80 PC elections can be sent in from today until Tuesday May 12th, 15:30 CEST. We will announce the PC elections at the RIPE meeting opening sessions, but interested parties can nominate themselves from now. We will close candidate nominations on Tuesday at 15:30 CEST (UTC+2), and publish the biographies on the RIPE Meeting web site. The RIPE PC online voting system will be open from Tuesday May 12th, 16:00 CEST until Thursday May 14th, 17:00 CEST, for the community members to cast their votes. The total voting numbers may be public. More information will also be available at https://ripe80.ripe.net/programme/ripe-pc/become-a-member/ The official announcement of the elected RIPE PC members will be on Thursday afternoon, 14th May, at the start of the 17:30 CEST closing plenary session. Shane, TFers, Thanks for holding the BoF and for sharing this. To repeat and expand on my input at the BoF. 1.) I am missing language about evolution of the requirements and the database itself. A high level stock taking exercise like this one that aims to be the basis for a service has to make it explicit that it addresses just about one point in time and things *will* change. It makes sense to spend a few paragraphs on how this will be handled. 2a.) -- ‘Provide registration information of Internet number resources’ is a primary purpose. I would use a title like “Authoritative and Accurate Registry of Internet Number Resources’. As far as I can see it ‘Enabling transfer of IP resources’ should be part of that. 2b.) I suggest grouping a number of the other separate items under ‘Facilitate Internet Operations and Operational Coordination’: - Facilitating communication about usage of the resources - Publishing routing policies by network operators (RIPE IRR) - Reverse Domain Name System (rDNS) - The RPKI Database It is important that we emphasise the RIPE DB is not just a registry but an operational tool. 3.) This iteration seems too detailed for me already. The charter is ‘… The purpose of the document is to establish community consensus at the general level. …’. I think it would make sense for the TF to take a step back and look for the general themes behind the detailed issues. And to look at it from the point of view of the users, first and foremost the primary users, those who register information in the database and use it for operational purposes.
