RIPE 30: Connectivity & Mbone

CONNECTIVITY We have 20 Sun workstations providing access to ssh, telnet and web browsers. There will also be the usual 10baseT connections for laptops and the RIPE NCC will bring their 2.4 GHz Digital WaveLan kit. If you have a WaveLan card please bring it with you. Unfortunately we don't have many cards to lend out. DHCP will be available. If you need to open your filters we will be using addresses from KTH's 130.237/16. Connectivity is provided courtesy of KTH NADA (Computer Science) and SUNET. MBONE KTH will be providing multicast coverage of the sessions in Room 1 showing the EOF-wg, routing-wg, lir-wg and Plenary sessions. Regards, Chris.

European Hostcount for April 1998

Dear All, below is the hostcount for April 1998. The table shows an increase since last month of nearly 120,000 (or 1.9%) to a total of almost 6,450,000 hosts in the DNS in Europe and surrounding areas. The it domain shows the highest increase for April with approximately 31000 hosts more than in March. - Brief Notes on this Hostcount - The main reason for Italy having the largest increase was a problem in last month's count: an important nameserver was not answering queries. Similarly, Greece's increase in comparison to an almost equal drop the previous time. Last months drop was discovered to be due to a file mixup when gathering the data which is not generated by the RIPE NCC. Finally, a drop for Germany is certainly not expected. This is due to three second-level domains being skipped, due to nameserver problems. de is such a large domain that a repeat count was not possible in the time available. - Other Ways to Obtain the Hostcount - The hostcount can also be found under ftp://ftp.ripe.net/ripe/hostcount.
