Hi, I recently reviewed my notes from the last RIPE meeting (Berlin), and one of the items on the plenary agenda was "EU and regulation". Apparently someone from the EU commission had taken an initiative where it was said "... investigate all the problems of the european Internet with the possibility for regulation ... " Needless to say, that didn't get much support at the RIPE meeting, and as far as I remember someone (including the RIPE chairman(?)) would get in touch with the relevant people from the commission and arrange an informal meeting with the intention to exchange information (both ways) concerning this. Has there been any progress on this item, and if so, what was the outcome? Does this at all have something to do with the message Lubos Elias sent to the RIPE mailing list on May 27th? Hi, I have read info saying there is a proposed law ( approved by the European Parliament and to be voted by the European Council of ministers ) that should bring some restrictions in advertisement in on-line services ( Internet, too ). On-line services should be categorized as broadcasting ( license needed ), limitation for foreign programs should be setup etc. Do you know if the law has been already approved and what is the final version ( is it on the net ? )? thanks, Lubos Elias elias(a)uakom.sk PS sorry, if this is not a right place where to ask

The contents of this document regarding the policies and procedures for the distribution of public IP address space in Europe and surrounding areas, were approved by the RIPE community during the RIPE-23 meeting held in January 1996. The document contains five sections which describe the European Internet Registry system, policies and procedures for address space assignments and allocations, and finally procedures for reverse delegations related to the address space. The document should be used as a reference by all local IRs in the RIPE community. The document will be updated later in 1996 with sections added on Internet Registry operations and Routing Registry policies and procedures. The sections published may be modified according to the wishes of the RIPE contributors committee prior to the update.
