In case you missed it, there is currently an epic discussion thread on the address-policy working group list: https://www.ripe.net/ripe/mail/archives/address-policy-wg/2016-April/thread.... I'm wondering what the "correct" way to present such a conversation is. Basically I looked at my overflowing inbox, realized that this wasn't super critical to my life, and marked the whole thing as read. If I had some way to pull out interesting or pertinent topics or messages I might have gave it some attention. One possible idea is to be more like reddit or other sites focused on discussion. (Reddit might not be the best, since it is not meant for long-term discussions but mostly for short-lived items, but anyway...) I think this means voting and ability to collapse threads. I don't know what else. I'm sure the RIPE NCC guys have discussed this before embarking on this project... maybe they can share their thoughts? :) Sent via RIPE Forum -- https://www.ripe.net/participate/mail/forum

Hi Shane, That is quite an epic discussion indeed! It would actually be an interesting test of the forum software, and in our development environment we have taken such cases into account and explored various possibilities for dealing with them. One option would be to allow collapsing threads or sub-threads and implementing features for sorting and navigating through messages. We have all this in mind and other ideas for improvements as well, but we will only work on those after the coming RIPE Meeting, once the pilot phase is up and the we will have had an opportunity to evaluate the project so far and decide on priorities for development. What I would note is that we aim for this to be an iterative process with regular releases, so we will listen to feedback and add the most impactful features to the software. Just to reiterate what Mihnea said: While the RIPE Forum started intentionally quite lightweight, we have some ideas how this interface could be more personalised by the user (tagging, sorting, et cetera). Valuable feedback like yours is always welcome when setting priorities. Further ideas will be appreciated. Important will be how much popularity the RIPE Forum will gain throughout our community. If all goes well we expect a full rollout after RIPE 72 which should give us a better picture. Don't hesitate to spread the word :) Regards, Marco Sent via RIPE Forum -- https://www.ripe.net/participate/mail/forum

Marco, Are you planning on introducing this during the NCC Services working group? Or maybe a lightning talk? Or would you prefer a slower ramp-up and have such exposure at RIPE 73? Cheers, -- Shane At 2016-04-20 09:12:03 +0200 Marco Schmidt <mschmidt@ripe.net> wrote:

Hello Shane, At RIPE 72 the RIPE WG chairs will review the project and decide on how to roll out the RIPE forum to the different WG mailing lists. Probably RIPE 73 would be a good place to talk more about it. And in the meantime we plan to promote the RIPE Forum to parts of the Internet community that are usually not on our mailing lists or attending RIPE meetings. This is a bit of weird mark-up, I guess in an attempt to obfuscate e-mail addresses? Sent via RIPE Forum -- https://www.ripe.net/participate/mail/forum

Hi Shane, We do obfuscate the email addresses as we replicate what Mailman does for the archives. It seems that our HTML tag sanitiser script is incorrectly encoding the obfuscated email address when the user replies via an email client. I'll raise a ticket. Cheers for spotting this, Adam Sent via RIPE Forum -- https://www.ripe.net/participate/mail/forum
