Dear Atlas folks, I was wondering if it is possible to bring dis- and reconnect messages of RIPE Atlas probes more in line with each other. The disconnect mail has a subject like this: "Probe ID is disconnected (Name (ISP))" The reconnect mail has this: "Your RIPE Atlas Probe (ID: XXX) has reconnected" For me this is a bit confusing. When I sort my inbox alphabetically on subject, it would be really nice if the messages are grouped close together, which currently is not the case. It would helpful to me if this could be improved, by adjusting the specific text in the subject a bit. Thanks. -- Marco
Seconded. How about: “Your Probe #[probe_id]: [this, _that_and the_other…]”? Sufficient? Best, -C.

This might be harder, as you have to store message-id of original notification sent to each particular user in database. I think this is "stateless" now (just sending notification about status change). - Daniel

The system knows when the probe disappeared, so has a timestamp that can be used to generate (togehter with the probe ID) a unique message ID which can be reconstructed on the second & further mails... Since there is an connect/disconnect history in the web page, the system very likely already stores all necessary details :-) Gert Doering -- NetMaster -- have you enabled IPv6 on something today...? If I look on message headers, notifications messages are sent from somewhat random workers. And worker hostname is now part of message id (sure, this can be changed to something more generic). I'm not saying it's not possible, but proper analysis needs to be performed. - Daniel

I fully trust the RIPE NCC engineers to get this right, if they decide it's worth doing this to make me shut up ;-) Gert Doering -- NetMaster -- have you enabled IPv6 on something today...? To scratch the (in)famous Gert itch, so to speak? ;->

I’d assume that the entire RIPE Atlas system is heavily database driven anyway - so this specific implementation might be a nice students’ project? Best, -C.
+1. Enabling preconditions for proper threading might also help, yes.

Hi Marco, I noticed this too as I am working on a new version of these emails. The new ones will have the subject lines the same so they should group together. Cheers, Johan ter Beest RIPE Atlas Team On Wed, 11 Sept 2024 at 13:32, Marco Davids (Private) via ripe-atlas < ripe-atlas@ripe.net> wrote:
