repeating v2 probe usb failure
probe 25898 had a usb failure. i did the unplug usb, power cycle, wait, replug usb. it worked for most of a day and then failed again. rinse repeat. oops, this last time, it has yet to return. can i just order a usb off the net and replace it? or do i just replace the unit? randy
Hey Randy, You should be able to order a stick from the net. I would also check the USB power cable (the USB A - Mini-B cable), and the power supply. If the unit doesn’t get enough power a similar problem may occur. Regards, Michel

power measures as good. will order a usb replacement. but, in the meantime, jaap suggested reformatting the current stick to something silly so the software would fully reformat it to atlas friendly. for the moment, that seems to have worked. all clues appreciated. randy
Hey Randy, Typically these sticks have a wear levelling algorithm. My best guess would be that filling the stick with garbage would cause it to reallocate any failed blocks on the flash memory and substitute them with working blocks. How well/long that will last depends on the amount of writes to disk, the amount of ‘good’ sectors available and the quality of the wear levelling algorithm. But as said, its a guess. Cheers, Michel

My Michigander probe had a USB memory failure many years ago. My quick fix was to use a USB to CF Card adapter with a 16GB CF card that had been deemed too small for DSLR use. I had forgotten about it until reading this thread. The probe should work with almost any USB storage device within probe power deliver limits. - James R. Cutler james.cutler@consultant.com

I had a probe that was in the same state and I had about given up on it. The reformatting trick seems to have worked for me too. Thanks Randy and Jaap! Regards Robert
Hi, I’ve used the reformatting trick a few times to fix this kind of issue. So far, it worked every time! Martin On 2023-08-15 19:02, Robert Story wrote:
