Hello, Atlas community! I am Serban Orza, a second-year Computer Science student at Delft University of Technology. Together with another 4 students, we are working on an open-source project that measures the accuracy and reliability of NTP servers. We already implemented the basics, but we would like to integrate RIPE Atlas to have a global perspective and to avoid the bias of a single measurement point. We would appreciate it a lot if somebody could provide us with some RIPE API credits to perform measurements and analyze the reachability of NTP servers. My account at RIPE NCC is on this email: orza@student.tudelft.nl Thank you! Serban

Hi Serban, Just sent you 10M. Let me know if you need more :-) And, as always, please feel free to share the results with us once you've completed it or have more info to share. Cheers, -Michael __________________ Michael J. Hi Serban, could you let us know if you'd still need some credits - happy to let drain some millions into your account! - or if you are saturated for the time being? Cheers, -C.

I am impressed by how many people are willing to help with credits for our NTP measuring project! We received a lot of credits and we want to thank you all for your support! Now we have more than enough to continue our research and our project:) As soon as we complete and publish our project we will share the results with everyone! Thank you all! Excellent, Serban - thanks a bunch in advance! Cheers, -C.

Dear RIPE community, As promised, I would like to present the open-source tool we developed for measuring NTP servers. In this message, I am not asking for further credits (as we still have a lot!), but I want to thank you and show you the tool that we did in a 10-week project. It may help you if you work with NTP servers. You can test our tool at: https://ntpinfo.sidnlabs.nl/ What does it do? 1. It sends NTP queries from multiple vantage points: - From our GPS-synced NTP client in the Netherlands - From 3 RIPE Atlas <https://atlas.ripe.net/> probes in your vicinity (it tries to find probes which are geographically close to you or in the same network/ same ASN) 1. It provides a comparison of both results (from our GPS-synced server and a probe), showing NTP metrics. (you can see more details if you hover the mouse over the text, try it for jitter) 2. You can visualize the history of all measurements for each domain name/ IP 3. You can compare the history of 2 or more NTP servers. Our mentor Dr. Giovane Moreira Moura created a post where we already received some feedback which helped us to improve it. Feel free to test it and, if you want, you can provide feedback on that post (see https://community.ntppool.org/t/site-to-evaluate-ntp-servers/3931) or on our project's GitHub page (https://github.com/NTPinfo/NTPinfo) by creating issues. We are open to improving the app! Something to keep in mind is that we used free MaxMind databases for getting the location of IP addresses and sometimes they have a 10 km error. (small spoiler: until October, we want to add a feature to verify if an NTP server is NTS) Thank you all for your support!
