Left unattended, over longer periods of time, measurements lose probes.
The RIPE Atlas API includes a call that can be used to add or remove
probes or groups of probes in an existing measurement, see:

We started working on a feature where you'll be able to ask the system
itself to remove disconnected probes, and to "top it up" with other
probes (similar to the original ones. I cannot tell when this will be
available though.
