Hi Paul, 

you can "bind" your software on port 8080 to a specific address (on loopback or ethX interface) and not to ANY (0.0.0.0).

On my software probe:

$ netstat -ltpn | grep 8080
tcp        0      0 127.0.0.1:8080          0.0.0.0:*               LISTEN      2456/ssh
tcp6       0      0 ::1:8080                :::*                    LISTEN      2456/ssh

$ nc -l 127.0.0.1 8080
nc: Address already in use

$ nc -l 127.0.0.2 8080
^C

ssh just binds to 127.0.0.1 and ::1
