Hello. I attempt to register person in RIPE Database. Some time ago I was searching for unused nic-hdl by change numbers. But it is not works now: $ whois DBS3-RIPE % This is the RIPE Database query service. % The objects are in RPSL format. % % The RIPE Database is subject to Terms and Conditions. % See http://www.ripe.net/db/support/db-terms-conditions.pdf %ERROR:101: no entries found % % No entries found in the selected source(s). but I receive reply: notify: ..... nic-hdl: DBS3-RIPE mnt-by: ..... changed: ..... source: RIPE ***Error: The nic-hdl 'DBS3-RIPE' is not available. Has something changed in rules ? -- Regards, Sergey Y. Afonin asy@kraft-s.ru

Is there a way to determine an available number ? Some time ago RIPN added number to nic-hdl automatically. Could such metod to be implemented in ripe-dbm@ robot ? -- Regards, Sergey Y. Afonin asy@kraft-s.ru

AUTO-1<Initials>? 16:16:19 [yz@yz][~]> ripe-whois -v person | sed -En '/^nic-hdl$/,/^[a-z]/p' nic-hdl Specifies the NIC handle of a role or person object. When creating an object, one can also specify an "AUTO" NIC handle by setting the value of the attribute to "AUTO-1" or AUTO-1<Initials>. In such case the database will assign the NIC handle automatically. From 2 to 4 characters optionally followed by up to 5 digits optionally followed by a source specification. The first digit must not be "0". Source specification starts with "-" followed by source name up to 9-character length. -- George L. Yermulnik [YZ-RIPE]
