Through the Community Projects Fund, the RIPE NCC offers funding of €250,000 in total for projects that work to improve the operation, resilience and sustainability of the Internet, with a focus on tools and services benefitting the technical community in our service region. If your project works for the ‘good of the Internet’, and you would like to apply for funding, please make sure to submit your application before the deadline. ACM SIGCOMM Traffic Manipulation Attacks and Defences (ManTra) 2020

Dear colleagues, today (14 August) between 16:00 and 22:00 (Germany timezone) takes place the first workshop on Traffic Manipulation Attacks and Defences, ManTra 2020. The workshop takes place digitally through Zoom. The goal of the workshop is to foster research on traffic manipulation attacks and defences and to bridge the gap between academia, industry and standardisation organs. The scope of the workshop includes understanding the landscape of traffic manipulation attacks, learning about the attackers (cyber criminals, security agencies, govts...), inferring vulnerabilities, ... and devising countermeasures, including challenges towards their deployment on real Internet networks. Full details are available on the workshop web site. The workshop is open to all SIGCOMM participants; so far SIGCOMM has way over 1000 registered participants. The registration is still open and highly affordable. The first ManTra workshop features talks from top researchers and expert practitioners in the area and is chaired by Haya Shulman and Radia Perlman. MobiCom 2020: Call for Demos

The ACM MobiCom 2020 demo session solicits the submission of research, platform, and product demonstrations, and exhibits from both academia and industry. Demonstrations should showcase innovative research or product prototypes, platforms, and applications in the areas of mobile computing and wireless and mobile networking. We strongly encourage demos based on novel applications in the domain of mobile computing and wireless systems. We also welcome live demos reproducing evaluation results of papers appearing in ACM Mobicom 2020 or past editions as well as other relevant venues. Please refer to the main conference introduction and CFP for the general areas that are relevant to the typical MobiCom audience. The MobiCom 2020 Demo committee will review all submissions to select the accepted demos. Submission instructions Please submit a proposal of your demo or exhibit at https://mobicom20demos.hotcrp.com<https://mobicom20demos.hotcrp.com/>. It should be a summary or extended abstract describing the research to be presented, details about what will be actually shown to the audience, maximum 2 pages in US letter size (8.5 x 11 inches) with fonts no smaller than 10 point size, in PDF file format with one extra page for references. Why should you submit a demo or exhibit? Presenting a demo is a great opportunity, especially for students and industry, to obtain valuable feedback on ongoing research from the knowledgeable crowd at the conference. Accepted demos will be posted on the conference website and published as a two-page abstract for the archived conference proceedings and the ACM digital library. DEMO presentation For all accepted submissions, authors will be required to prepare a long video of the demo (5-10 mins), as well as a short pitch (1-2 mins) with a single slide support. Dear all, My book *Immersion and Participation in Punchdrunk's Theatrical Worlds *(Bloomsbury) is now available in paperback, hardback and e-book ( https://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/immersion-and-participation-in-punchdrunks-th…). It is an in-depth exploration of immersion and participation in cross-platform spaces, and introduces a theoretical framework that allows for interrogation of virtual and physical scenographies and the inflection of conditions of possibility by how audience/user agency is modelled by their designers. The book is written around case studies of Punchdrunk, Chinese Room, Blast Theory, The Mill and other digital and cross-platform designers and an in-depth ethnographic study of how audiences and makers perceive interaction across interfaces. To accommodate analyses of cross-platform experience designed for immersive experience, I drew on critiques of representation in and beyond performance, media philosophy, critical posthumanism and infrastructure studies to articulate questions around space and place in interactive systems. Dear all, This year’s TMA will take place virtually. To accommodate highly promising work that benefits from early feedback and usually would be presented in a poster session, TMA 2020 solicits contributions for Lightning Talks. Lightning talks will give the opportunity for PhD students and young researchers to present their work-in-progress. An award will give credit to the best presentation. What is a lightning talk? A lightning talk is a 3 minute pre-recorded presentation of work-in-progress. Topics of interest include concepts, experiences, and results in the collection, processing, analysis, or visualization of network measurements across the entire network stack. All pre-recordings will be presented in a dedicated session during the TMA online conference. To connect presenters and participants, we will allow for live Q&A after the presentations. Recordings and abstracts will be published on the TMA web page after the conference. What do we expect from the recordings? You are encouraged to find creative solutions to convey your research in a compelling way. You are not limited to slideshows with voice overs but can integrate videos, animations, etc. The only limit is the 3 minute time slot you have. A Lightning Talk Award will be given to the best presentation. What to submit? In order to participate, please submit a one-page abstract (double column, 10pt, IEEE Transactions template) that describes your work concisely. Call for Papers 3rd Workshop on Benchmarking Cyber-Physical Systems and Internet of Things (CPS-IoTBench'20) in conjunction with ACM MobiCom 2020 September 21-25, 2020 - London, UK https://cpsbench20.ethz.ch/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Over the last decade, research on Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and Internet of Things (IoT) has led to smart systems at different scales and environments, from smart homes to smart cities and smart factories. Despite many successes, it is difficult to measure and compare the utility of these results due to a lack of standard evaluation criteria and methodologies. This problem inhibits evaluation against the state-of-the-art, the comparability of different integrated designs (e.g., control and networking), and the applicability of tested scenarios to present and future real-world cyber-physical applications and deployments. This state of affairs is alarming, it significantly hinders further progress in CPS and IoT systems research. ******** TOPICS ******** The Workshop on Benchmarking Cyber-Physical Systems and Internet of Things (CPS-IoTBench) brings together researchers from the different sub-communities to engage in a lively debate on all facets of rigorously evaluating and comparing cyber-physical networks and systems. Unique to this workshop, we seek reports describing the reproduction of experimental results reported in published papers. Examples of these include researchers looking to validate another piece of work before comparing their own to it, or industrial organizations evaluating a new technology or demonstrating the robustness of their technology before customer delivery. We invite researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to submit papers focusing on one of the following topics: - describe an attempt to reproduce experimental results from published work; - identify fundamental challenges and open questions in rigorous benchmarking and evaluation of cyber-physical networks and systems; - report on success stories/failures with using standard evaluation criteria; - present example benchmark systems and approaches from any relevant community (embedded systems, networking, control, robotics, machine learning); - propose new research directions, methodologies, or tools to increase the level of reproducibility and comparability of evaluation results; - report on examples of best practices in different CPS sub-communities towards achieving the repeatability of results; - present models to capture & compare the properties of algorithms and systems; Well-reasoned arguments or preliminary evaluations are sufficient to support a paper's claims. Call for submissions ACM SIGCOMM 2020 Workshop on the Evolution, Performance, and Interoperability of QUIC (EPIQ) https://conferences.sigcomm.org/sigcomm/2020/workshop-epiq.html The transport protocol QUIC has emerged from a proprietary effort undertaken by Google to a next generation transport protocol being standardized in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). While its original motivation and design was to support next-generation Web traffic using HTTP/2, embedding QUIC into the Internet architecture raises exciting challenges beyond the necessary engineering efforts. QUIC has already seen deployment and motivated research papers measuring, extending, and evaluating QUIC from various perspectives. The Second ACM SIGCOMM Workshop on the Evolution, Performance, and Interoperability of QUIC (EPIQ) seeks to continue to foster this emerging community. Dear all, We are all witnessing unprecedented circumstances world-wide due to the spread of COVID-19 virus. Some of the preventative measures like travel restrictions, quarantines and university and lab closures in some areas have also potentially affected the work going on in our community. Several of you have asked us to consider postponing the deadline due to the these extraordinary circumstances. We fully sympathize with these requests. We would hate to see this causing anyone to miss the deadline, with all the hard work that has gone into it. After a careful deliberation and a discussion with the steering committee, we have decided to postpone the Mobicom 2020 winter deadline by 2 weeks. We hope this can help. We understand that this may not be enough for some of us, but this is the most we can postpone while still being able to prepare a high-quality program in time for the conference. But most importantly, please stay safe and follow the appropriate health advices! Keep in mind that Mobicom now has two submissions a year, and we publish accepted papers online twice a year.
