The 20th ACM Workshop on Hot Topics in Networks (HotNets 2021) will bring together researchers in computer networks and systems to engage in a lively debate on the theory and practice of computer networking. HotNets provides a venue for discussing innovative ideas and for debating future research agendas in networking. We invite researchers and practitioners to submit short position papers. We encourage papers that identify fundamental open questions, advocate a new approach, offer a constructive critique of the state of networking research, re-frame or debunk existing work, report unexpected early results from a deployment, report on promising but unproven ideas, or propose new evaluation methods. Novel ideas need not be supported by full evaluations; well-reasoned arguments or preliminary evaluations can support the possibility of the paper’s claims. We seek early-stage work, where the authors can benefit from community feedback. An ideal submission has the potential to open a line of inquiry for the community that results in multiple conference papers in related venues (SIGCOMM, NSDI, CoNEXT, SOSP, OSDI, MobiCom, MobiSys, etc.), rather than a single follow-on conference paper. The program committee will explicitly favor early work and papers likely to stimulate reflection and discussion over “conference papers in miniature”. Finished work that fits in a short paper is likely a better fit with the short-paper tracks at either CoNEXT or IMC, for example. HotNets takes a broad view of networking research. This includes new ideas relating to (but not limited to) mobile, wide-area, data-center, home, and enterprise networks using a variety of link technologies (wired, wireless, visual, and acoustic), as well as social networks and network architecture. It encompasses all aspects of networks, including (but not limited to) packet-processing hardware and software, virtualization, mobility, provisioning and resource management, performance, energy consumption, topology, robustness and security, measurement, diagnosis, verification, privacy, economics and evolution, interactions with applications, and usability of underlying networking technologies. Position papers will be selected based on originality, likelihood of stimulating insightful discussion at the workshop, and technical merit. Accepted papers will be posted online prior to the workshop and will be published in the ACM Digital Library to facilitate wide dissemination of the ideas discussed at the workshop. Policy on Concurrent Submissions Concurrent submissions to HotNets 2021 and any other peer-reviewed venue that cover the same work (differences in the degree of detail given the two venues’ length limits notwithstanding) are prohibited, and will result in the immediate rejection of the HotNets submission in question. “Concurrent” means any other peer-reviewed venue whose reviewing period (i.e., between submission and notification) overlaps with that of HotNets. The “same work” means, for example, a submission overlapping significantly in content with a conference submission. However, a position paper submitted to HotNets (e.g., that reflects broadly on the state of some aspect of the field, adopts a position as to how the field should move forward, or articulates a broad avenue of future work) will not be considered the “same work” as a conference-length paper on a specific system that addresses a point under the broad umbrella covered by the position paper. Authors with questions about the concurrent submission policy are encouraged to contact the PC chairs (Minlan and Laurent) prior to submitting. Ethical Concerns As part of the submission process, authors must attest that their work complies with all applicable ethical standards of their home institution(s), including, but not limited to privacy policies and policies on experiments involving humans. Note that submitting research for approval by one’s institution’s ethics review body is necessary, but not sufficient – in cases where the PC has concerns about the ethics of the work in a submission, the PC will have its own discussion of the ethics of that work. The PC takes a broad view of what constitutes an ethical concern, and authors agree to be available at any time during the review process to rapidly respond to queries from the PC chairs regarding ethical standards. Submission and Formatting Submitted papers must be no longer than 6 pages (10 point font, 12 point leading, 7 inch by 9.25 inch text block) including all content except references. There are no limits for reference pages. The archive (https://conferences.sigcomm.org/hotnets/2021/hotnets21-template.zip) contains a LaTeX class file that follows the prescribed submission format and an example of a paper formatted using that class. All submissions must be blind: they must not indicate the names or affiliations of the authors in the paper. Only electronic submissions in PDF will be accepted. Submissions must be written in English, render without error using standard tools (e.g., Acrobat Reader), and print on US Letter paper. Papers must contain novel ideas and must differ significantly in content from previously published papers. Dear all, For the past few years we've been organising a session for academia and NRENs parallel to each RIPE Meeting. It consists of an introduction round followed by short presentations and Q&A. Since the meeting is vitual this year, anyone with interest can attend, (so even if you are not attending the RIPE Meeting). If you are interested to join, please email me back. The session will take place on Friday, 14 May, 12:00-13:00 UTC / 14:00-15:00 CEST. If you are interested to attend, would you also want to talk about something? This can be: - Your recent research: it doesn't matter if it is published or not, finished or not. All that matters is that you want to tell us about it and maybe answer a few questions. The topics we are interested in: network measurement and analysis, IPv6, routing, network security, peering and interconnectivity, IoT, Internet governance. - Any project of your university or NREN - maybe you launched a new popular course or created a new platform for online learning? We'd like to have several talks of up to 10 minutes. If there is a lot of interest, we can make the session a little longer. It's up to you whether you prefer to do them with or without slides. IEEE ICNP 2021 Call for Workshops ICNP, the IEEE International Conference on Network Protocols, is the premier conference covering all aspects of network protocol research, including design, analysis, specification, verification, implementation, and performance. ICNP 2021 will host multiple one-day or half-day workshops in conjunction with the main conference, to be held in Dallas, Texas, USA, November 2-5, 2021. We invite you to submit workshop proposals on any topic related to the main ICNP conference. ICNP workshops should focus on emerging research areas as well as boosting interactions among participants and community building. Website: https://icnp21.cs.ucr.edu/cfw.html A workshop proposal for ICNP 2021 should contain at least the following information: - Name and possible acronym of the workshop. - Motivation and rationale for the workshop. - Names and affiliations of main organizers, and a tentative composition of the committees (as complete as possible). - Workshop format, i.e., expected number of presented papers, slot lengths, information about invited talks, panels, demonstrations, etc. - Expected number of participants and expected number of submissions. - Prior history of this workshop, if any, including number of submissions, number of accepted papers, and attendee count of previous instances. - Draft call-for-papers, including introduction and topics of the workshop. Please note that the paper submission deadline of workshops should be around the beginning of July and the camera-ready processing of conference papers, tentatively set as August 24th, 2021, must be met by all workshops as well. Also, the break times need to be the same across all parallel workshops. All the registered participants to a workshop will receive a ticket for the welcome reception of the main conference to be held on the evening of November 2nd. The paper lengths are limited to six pages in IEEE Computer Society format. All the accepted papers need to be presented at the workshop. They will be included in the workshop proceedings as well as IEEE Xplore. This is why you have not seen any call for applications for RACI (the initiative funding academics to come and present) - there is at the moment no financial obstacle to do so. This is why I want to encourage you to submit any talks you might have directly to the general call for presentations of the meeting. MobiSys 2021: Call for Workshops MobiSys is a premier venue for researchers working in the area of mobile and wireless systems, middleware, services, and applications. We solicit workshop proposals for workshops to be held in conjunction with the conference, likely in late June or in July. Workshop papers will be included with the MobiSys proceedings and published in the ACM Digital Library. Duration and format of the workshop is very flexible to best adapt to the audience and workshop goal. The deadline for submitting proposals is February 28th 2021 Topics of interest We expect proposals on new and emerging topics in the general area of mobile and wireless systems, services, and applications. The ideal workshop proposal will focus on a timely and emerging topic, and be able to attract a number of interesting and high-quality contributions that spark discussions in an informal setting. The goal is to stimulate interactive conversations and inspire new research ideas. We will likely feature a mix of some returning and some new workshops. Submission guidelines The proposal should be no longer than three pages and should clearly identify: 1. Name of the workshop 2. Name, affiliation and contact of each organizer 3. A brief statement of interest including a description and rationale for the workshop topic and its relevance to the MobiSys community, as well as a comparison with existing workshops on related topics (if applicable) 4. List of names and affiliations of potential program/TPC committee members 5. List of potential keynotes or invited speakers (if applicable) 6. Planned format of the workshop, including a strategy to facilitate lively discussions and attendee involvement considering the virtual settings 7. Expected number of submissions and participants 8. [Apologies if you receive multiple copies of this CFP!] IEEE ICNP 2021 Call for Papers ICNP, the IEEE International Conference on Network Protocols, is the premier conference covering all aspects of network protocol research, including design, analysis, specification, verification, implementation, and performance. ICNP 2021 will be held in Dallas, Texas, from November 2-5, 2021. Both experimental studies as well as formal investigations are equally welcome. Topics traditionally of interest include, but are not limited to: - All aspects of network protocol research including design, specification, verification, implementation, measurement, testing, and analysis. - Protocols for wireless networks, cellular networks, software-defined networks, data center networks, social networks, sensor networks, vehicular networks, and Internet of Things. - Domain-specific solutions, including protocols for network security, routing, user privacy, and network management. - Network protocols meet AI/ML, e.g., application of AI/Machine Learning to improve network protocols and operations; networking and protocols for improving the performance of AI/Machine Learning systems. - Contributions to network architecture, e.g., algorithms and protocols for network virtualization or future Internet architectures. - Contributions to other areas of data communications to the extent that they articulate a strong connection to network protocols, for example by discussing potential implications on the design or performance of certain types of network protocols. Authors who are unsure whether or not their submissions might fit the scope of the conference are welcome to contact the Program Committee co-Chairs. Paper Formatting Paper submissions should adhere to the IEEE Conference formatting requirements using the templates available here, and should not exceed 10 pages excluding references. It is the authors' responsibility to produce readable submissions that comply with the formatting constraints. Violating the formatting requirements to squeeze in additional materials will result in a submission being returned without being reviewed. Submission and Anonymity Policy Papers submitted to the conference will be reviewed through a double-blind review process, where the identities of the authors are withheld from the reviewers (and that of the reviewers from the authors). Achieving this goal requires some care to, on the one hand, preserve the anonymity of your submission, and on the other hand ensuring proper coverage of related past work, including your own. While this requirement may seem challenging, the few basic steps listed below will go a long way towards achieving the desired outcome: - Remove all authors' identifiers, e.g., names, emails, and affiliations, from the title page. - Remove acknowledgments of and identifiers of funding sources. - Use anonymous names for your files, as source file names are often embedded in the final output you generate, and therefore accessible as comments. - When referring to your own related work, refer to it in the third person as you would with any other related work by another author. Besides anonymizing your submission, double-blind reviewing also imposes additional requirements on both authors and reviewers. Specifically, while it is permissible for authors to give local talks on their work and release their paper on a non-peer-reviewed location, e.g., an institutional repository or even arXiv, care should be exercised to limit public exposure as much as possible. This requirement includes refraining from advertising the work on mailing lists and public forums, and in general limiting as much as possible the odds that program committee members be exposed to the work and the authors' identity. Conversely, program committee members will be advised to neither actively seek to "reverse engineer" the authors' identity, nor to directly share with other program committee members any such information they may have acquired. All questions regarding possible breaches of the anonymity covenant that underlies the double-blind review process will be adjudicated by the Program Committee co-Chairs. All papers will be provisionally accepted and the final acceptance of any paper will be subject to shepherding by a member of the program committee. Submission and Plagiarism Policy Papers must present original contributions and can neither be previously published nor under review by another conference or journal. Papers containing plagiarized materials will be subject to the IEEE plagiarism policy and possible penalties and will be rejected without being reviewed. Best Paper Award and Fast-Track Journal Publication One of the accepted papers will be selected for the Best Paper award, and will be fast tracked to the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, with a streamlined journal review process. Presentation and Registration Requirements IEEE ICNP requires that at least one of the authors of any accepted paper must register for the conference at the full rate and be available to present the paper at the conference. While we anticipate ICNP 2021 will be held physically in-person in Dallas, TX, in the unlikely event that the conference is held virtually or partially virtually due to health considerations, we will accommodate requests by authors to present papers remotely, without physical attendance, and subsequently to include the paper in the conference proceedings and in IEEE Xplore. However, any paper that is not presented by an author of the paper, either in-person or remotely, will be withdrawn from the proceedings and thus from IEEE Xplore. Dear all, I am Hazel Murray, a final year PhD student from Ireland. I am studying password security and authentication. In my research I am measuring the trade-off that exists between the costs and benefits of securing authentication systems. Myself and my supervisor, Prof. David Malone, are carrying out a survey aimed at system administrators, IT services staff and anyone in charge of security and authentication for an organisation. Online version: https://tics.site/cfp/ # TICS 2020 **Co-located with the [2020 IEEE/WIC/ACM International Joint Conference on Web Intelligence and Intelligent Agent Technology (WI-IAT 2020)](http://wi2020.vcrab.com.au/), to be held online.** ## Introduction Over the past years there has been a greater demand from large-scale players such as governments and dominant media companies for online censorship and surveillance, as an understandable reaction against hate speech, copyright violations, and other cases related to citizen compliance with civil laws and regulations by national authorities. Unfortunately, this is often accompanied by a tendency of extensively censoring online content and massively spying on citizens actions. Numerous whistle-blower revelations, leaks from classified documents, and a vast amount of information released by activists, researchers and journalists, reveal evidence of government-sponsored infrastructure that either goes beyond the requirements and scope of the law, or operates without any effective regulations in place. In addition, this infrastructure often supports the interests of big private corporations, such as the companies that enforce online copyright control. Mobile networks are particularly vulnerable to the above points. Due to the nature of their deployment, few actors can achieve far-reaching results, and end-users are left unprotected; we are interested in tracking developments that, without sacrificing functionality and convenience, allow end-users to get control on the amount and breadth of information generated, stored and processed on them. TICS is a special track the area of Internet censorship, surveillance and other adversarial burdens to technology that bring in danger; to a greater extend the safety (physical security and privacy) of its users. Proposals for TICS 2020 should be situated within the field of Internet censorship, network measurements, information controls, surveillance and content moderation. ## Workshop topics The goal of TICS is to raise awareness around the implications of network interference, by inviting researchers from complementary disciplines to consider the effect of their own domain on online censorship and surveillance. SIGMOBILE is launching its second Mentorship Program at MobiCom 2020. The goal of this program is to enable SIGMOBILE student members to get a chance to interact with senior researchers, either one-on-one or as a small team of 2 students. All mentoring sessions will be conducted online. To be eligible for participation, you must be: 1. currently enrolled as a graduate student (M.S. or PhD) 2. a registered attendee at ACM MobiCom’20 3. available on all days of the main conference: Sep 21 - Oct 24 Applications are now open. If you are interested, please fill the Mentorship Program Application Form<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc2RNXyt7ZilLorecdEJCmnjCgFp2yP-9h…> by September 10th, 2020. The application requires you to upload your most recent CV and a Mentorship Statement. The Mentorship Statement must be no longer than one US letter-sized paper (8.5in X 11 in), with font size no smaller than 10 points. Your statement must consist of the following: 1. Research interests 2. Expectations from the program: If you have specific mentoring needs, please specify here. For example, please indicate if you are currently applying to industry and/or academia and are looking for a mentor to guide you in that aspect. 3. Who would you like to meet: If you would like a specific researcher as your mentor, please indicate so. We cannot guarantee that you will be paired with a mentor of your choice. 4. Reference metro-area IP/MPLS deployments, with underlays

Hello, I'm new to this list ... I hope that I've understood the scope correctly. I'm looking for reference implementations of IP/MPLS operator networks within ***the metro area***, that do not abstract the underlay (underlying transport). To clarify, I would like to see the underlying multiplexing technology, whether it's wavelengths, OTN, statistical using long-reach Ethernet (e.g. 10GBASE-ER), SONET/SDH.
