With its inaugural appearance at SC14 in New Orleans, INDIS has become an academic forum for experts, researchers, and engineers in research and education (R&E) networking. The continuing evolution of advanced networks will not only require the synthesis of existing technologies but will also rely on new opportunities for novel research in both industry and academia. Several trends have developed in the scientific networking community that are expected to have a significant impact over the next 5-10 years and have the potential to bring the world closer to realizing truly Intelligent Networks. These include: - The availability of network visibility and telemetry - The role of in-network and Edge compute resources - AI for networks and networks for AI - The use of testbeds and the Cloud in advanced scientific workflows - Multi-domain integrated infrastructure with a focus on security, portability, and automation In this spirit, we invite researchers and engineers to submit high-quality technical academic papers to the 12th Annual International Workshop on Innovating the Network for Data-Intensive Science (INDIS 2025). The workshop will be held in conjunction with the SC25: IEEE/ACM International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis (Supercomputing), which will be held in St. Louis, Missouri, November 16-21, 2025. We invite papers that propose new and novel techniques that increase the capacity and functionality of scientific computing and high-performance networks. This workshop encourages submissions that address one or more of the workshop topics addressing networking research challenges and developments that are essential in information systems infrastructure for the scientific discovery process. We also welcome participants from SCinet to present high-quality experimental papers on their latest designs and solutions. SCinet, as the high-speed network engine of the SC conference, represents state of the art, connects many demonstrators of big science data processing infrastructures at the highest line speeds, deploys the newest technologies available, and demonstrates network instrumentation techniques and novel functionality. The show floor network connects to many laboratories and universities worldwide using high-bandwidth connections. Topics of interest include but are not limited to: - Network innovations: novel approaches, protocols and algorithms to meet the current and emerging requirements for data intensive applications. - High-performance network testbeds and simulations for parallel and distributed science experiments and workloads. - High-performance and large-scale network monitoring, control, and management services. - Software-defined networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) in service of data science applications. - AI and machine learning algorithms for network telemetry, performance measurements, network and Input/Output (I/O) profile analytics, and high-touch solutions on network packets, flows and hardware stats to identify patterns and troubleshooting issues. - Compute in-network (aka edge-middleware computing platforms) and offloaded infrastructure services on programmable hardware (e.g. FPGA). - High-performance data streaming and memory-to-memory transfer applications and techniques. - Wireless and Quantum networking and testbeds. - End-to-end quality of service (QoS) performance and Traffic Engineering (TE) applications. - Multi-domain networking, including hybrid clouds and multi-domain authorization. - Scientific data privacy, security, integrity, provenance and sharing in multi-domain environments. Important Dates: - Paper Submission due: August 1st, 2025 - Notification of acceptance: September 5th, 2025 - Camera-ready version: September 26th, 2025 - Workshop Date: November 16th, 2025 Submission Guidelines: Papers will be published in the SC25 conference workshop proceedings upon approval. Workshop papers are expected to be 8-10 pages (including references) for full papers and 5-6 pages (including references) for short papers describing novel work in the topics of interest. Short papers that highlight early experimental testbed results and network integration breakthroughs are highly encouraged. Experiments from SCinet and the show floor are encouraged (e.g. Traveling FABRIC node). The minimum number of pages to be eligible for publication in the SC workshop proceedings is 5 pages (including references). Dear Colleagues "The essence of true understanding lies not merely in what is known, but in how profoundly it reshapes what is yet to be discovered." So begins our latest endeavor, : Banking on Circularity: Can Financial Institutions Become the Engines of a Regenerative Economy? Co-authored by Williams and I, which confronts the current state-of-the-art in circular finance with uncompromising rigor. While contemporary approaches have pushed boundaries, they often grapple with a limited scope, failing to fully integrate systemic regeneration. Our paper transcends these limitations by introducing a novel framework for assessing and de-risking circular economy investments. This isn't merely an incremental improvement; it’s a fundamental rethinking, offering a blueprint for financial institutions to identify, evaluate, and capitalize on genuinely regenerative business models. The contribution of this work to the ongoing discussion is profound. Dear Colleagues, Let's pause to think; "If we can't measure it, we can't manage it – and the Circular Economy demands precision, not just promise." ~ W.M My new article presents a critical leap forward, "Towards Circular Economy Metrics: a Systematic Review" meticulously tackles one of the most pressing challenges in the transition to a circular economy: The article is guided upon this epistemological lense: How do we truly measure progress? What is known about traditional metrics often revolves around linear indicators like waste generated or recycling rates. While useful, these frequently fail to capture the systemic interdependencies and value retention inherent in a circular model. The current state-of-the-art offers a fragmented landscape of disparate indicators, lacking harmonization and comprehensive scope. The novelty of this paper lies in its rigorous systematic review. It synthesizes a vast array of existing metrics to expose their limitations and illuminate the path forward. This article provides enriched insights into the complexities of measurement, moving beyond simple input/output analysis. The study identifies and scrutinizes over six critical aspects of metrics (e.g., material flows, energy efficiency, value retention, social impacts, economic viability, and system-level circularity), revealing significant gaps, particularly in the social dimension and across different scales (micro, meso, macro). The contribution to knowledge is immense. It provides a robust, evidence-based roadmap for developing a unified, comprehensive, and truly effective set of CE metrics. By delineating what exists and what is missing, the study not only clarifies the chaotic current landscape but also serves as a roadmap for future exploration and unraveling of measurement challenges. This systematic approach paves the way for a new generation of sophisticated, interconnected metrics crucial for effective policy-making, business strategy, and ultimately, real-world impact. The reality the study highlights is that without a common language for measuring circularity, we risk misdirected efforts and elusive progress. The article advocates for sophisticated collaboration among researchers, industry, and policymakers to converge on universally accepted, robust metrics, ensuring our collective journey toward a truly circular future is not merely aspirational but demonstrably impactful.
