RIPE 89 Student Event: The Czech Internet Community in Focus

Dear colleagues, In less than a month, RIPE NCC will be hosting another RIPE meeting and this time around we're heading to the beautiful city of Prague, Czech Republic! The dates are October 28 - November 1; registration for the meeting is still open and a draft agenda is published with the final version coming soon. For more details, check the official page: https://ripe89.ripe.net Pre-RIPE 89 Online student event On Monday October 14 (17:00 - 18:30 UTC+2), NCC will organise a free online event aimed at people currently studying in the fields of networking, computer science, internet governance and other fields relevant to the RIPE community. The goal is to introduce them to the RIPE Community, encourage them to participate at the RIPE Meeting (in-person or online) and provide them with tips on how to make the most out of it. In this edition, we are putting a spotlight on the Czech Internet community and their remarkable contributions to building a stable, robust, and resilient Internet. We prepared a great agenda featuring excellent speakers who will share their firsthand experiences in founding, managing, and supporting critical infrastructure projects and initiatives in Czechia. As we are targeting undergrad and master students, the speakers will keep the content relatively high-level and focused on the importance of strong communities. The Platform for Advanced Scientific Computing (PASC) is co-sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS). PASC25 will be held from June 16 to 18, 2025, at FHNW Campus Brugg-Windisch, Switzerland. I’ve been to this conference several times and found it to be a welcoming community particularly interested in best practices for scientific software development and case studies of social science methods being used to improve scientific infrastructure/development—including work practices. I see the Labor Tech community as particularly well positioned to address topics like the "extra work" of reproducibility efforts, software stewardship, and open source community building as well as the professionalization (or gigification?) of scientific software development and diversity issues within that career path. Papers accepted for PASC25 will be presented as talks and published in the Proceedings of the PASC Conference, accessible via the ACM Digital Library. We employ a rigorous academic peer-review process: most notably, we allow the possibility for provisional acceptance (revision and author rebuttal). For that reason, I’d encourage you to submit even if you’re not quite happy with the draft.
