IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey Now Underway!

[Apologies for duplicates] Dear Colleagues, As announced at RIPE 58, TNO and GNKS Consult are working with the RIPE NCC to conduct a survey, sponsored by the European Commission, on the current and future use of IPv6 throughout the RIPE NCC service region. The IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey is now online, and we encourage all members of the RIPE community to participate: http://is-nri.com/take/?i=150597&h=1GwWe3dXXMcPrRrOw5s2yg The purpose of the survey is to better understand where the community is moving, and what can be done to ensure the Internet community is ready for the widespread adoption of IPv6. The survey was developed in consultation with members of the RIPE community, and is inspired by the 2008 survey conducted by ARIN and CAIDA in North America. It is sponsored by the European Commission, which has actively supported the adoption of IPv6, in the interests of innovation and the continuing competitiveness of European industry. We encourage all organisations in the RIPE NCC service region to participate in this survey, which we hope will establish a comprehensive view of present IPv6 penetration and future plans for IPv6 deployment. By making the survey design similar to the ARIN/CAIDA survey, we hope that the results will contribute to a better global picture of current and future IPv6 deployment. The survey is composed of 16 questions and can be completed in 10-15 minutes. For those without IPv6 allocations or assignments, or who have not yet deployed IPv6, the questions will be fewer in number. The survey will close on 3 July 2009. Results of the IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey will be presented and discussed at RIPE 59, which will be held 5-9 October in Lisbon, Portugal. Changing IP addresses of whois.ripe.net

Dear Colleagues, On Wednesday, 17 June 2009 at 13:00 (UTC), the RIPE NCC will change both the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of whois.ripe.net to point to the new whois query cluster. If you have the old IP addresses hardwired, you will be able to continue to use them for one more month. After this, the old whois query cluster will be disabled, and RIPE Database queries and near real-time mirroring (NRTM) will only be available through the new whois query cluster. In order to avoid having to make changes in the future, you should always use the DNS name whois.ripe.net to access the RIPE Database. If you have any questions, please email <ripe-dbm(a)ripe.net>. New emergency RIPE NCC PGP Key

2007-01 Phase 2 Implementation: Direct Internet Resource Assignments to End Users from the RIPE NCC

[Apologies for duplicates] Dear colleagues, We are pleased to announce that the RIPE NCC has implemented the second phase of "Direct Internet Resource Assignments to End Users from the RIPE NCC". In this phase the RIPE NCC will contact all LIRs to request information regarding existing direct resources requested through that LIR. This will be done via the LIR Portal. All LIR Portal users will receive a notification email on 28 May 2009 detailing the process. Details of the implementation are available at: http://www.ripe.net/rs/pi-existing-assignments.html Timelines: Before September 2009: LIRs need to indicate which resources should stay with that LIR. This will affect the charging scheme for 2010. Before 31 December 2009: LIRs must upload contracts and registration papers for all resources still associated with that LIR. rev-srv: Attribute Deprecation: Stage 2 completed

[Apologies for duplicate emails] Dear Colleagues, The RIPE NCC has begun implementing the deprecation of the "rev-srv:" attribute. This was discussed on the DNS WG mailing list and at the RIPE 54 Meeting in Tallinn, Estonia, during the Database Working Group session. More details are available at: http://www.ripe.net/ripe/maillists/archives/dns-wg/2007/msg00090.html The plan suggested on the mailing list is being used and there are three stages: - Stage 1: Announcement - Stage 2: Syntax change - Stage 3: Clean-up The announcement was made to the Database Working Group mailing list on 27 April 2009. *Stage 2 has now been completed.* The RIPE NCC has removed the "rev-srv:" attribute from the RIPE RPSL syntax for INET(6)NUM objects. Any new objects created must not have this attribute included. If any objects that include this attribute are modified, then the "rev-srv:" attributes must be removed. If you wish to keep the information for documentation purposes, change the"rev-srv:" attributes into "remarks:" attributes. The "rev-srv:" attribute has also been removed from the list of inverse query options. Stage 3 is planned to be completed before RIPE 59. The site is for anyone with an interest in IPv6, including network engineers, company directors, law enforcement agencies, government representatives and civil society. RIPE NCC Now Accepting Requests for IPv6 PI Assignments

This follows the accepted policy proposal 2006-01 "Provider Independent (PI) IPv6 Assignments for End User Organisations". Stage 2: Syntax change ---------------------- This stage will begin on May 27 2009, when the RIPE NCC will remove the "rev-srv:" attribute from the RIPE RPSL syntax for INET(6)NUM objects. Any new objects created after this date must not have this attribute included. If any objects that include this attribute are modified, then the "rev-srv:" attributes must be removed. If you wish to keep the information for documentation purposes, change the"rev-srv:" attributes into "remarks:" attributes.
